Stern Spider-Man Pinball Pre-Production Images

May 1, 2007

Spider-Man Playfield

PinballSales.com has posted the first shots of the cabinet, playfield, and various playfield toys for Stern’s next pinball, Steve Ritchie’s Spider-Man.

Steve Ritchie is the designer of many pinball favorites including High Speed and Terminator 2.

The new Spider-Man pinball brings about more variety than most Stern pinballs, which is something that fans have been asking for, as it’s a three-flipper game, and has two “web-slingers” that shoot the ball up from the bottom of the playfield. Fans of the comic should be appeased as well as fans of the movies, as the game includes villians from all three movies, and the playfield toys seem to be inspired from both the art from the comics, as well as from the films.

The game features hundreds of crystal clear voice and sound calls from all of the major characters from all 3 Spider-Man movies, including custom speech from J.K. Simmons as the Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson.

Note that since the images come from a pre-production machine, some aspects of the game may change before production.

Sweet Arcade Cardboard Cabs

May 1, 2007

cardboard-cab1.jpg

Can’t believe I missed this, but at least I can make one just for the fun of it. Now what design do I go for? A classic arcade game or something random like some of the entry’s to this competition. Sorry, I should explain, the idea of this was….. or I could let Kotaku do it for me!

“Spanish hipster bar Marrs Bar recently wrapped up a super cool “We Hate Glue” contest — So cool that we wish they would’ve told us about it! Folks were asked to design paper arcade cabinets. The winner gets €250. Easy, enough? The cool bit is the imaginative way contestants covered the cabinets.”

Raw Thrills’ Drift Released In Europe By Brent Sales/Namco

May 1, 2007

For our European readers, this may be of interest as Raw Thrills releases its answer to EA’s Need For Speed:

The hotly anticipated sequel to Raw Thrills’ AAA video driver, The Fast and the Furious, F&F Drift has been launched in Europe by exclusive distributors Brent Sales / Namco Europe.

Linkable up to eight units, the game features 19 action packed tracks, of which seven are completely new, a choice of 12 new ‘tricked out’ street racing cars and all 12 original soundtracks from the hit movie which provided the inspiration for the arcade experience.

In a further development of the street savvy component of the game, players can now use game credits to purchase car customisations, speeding up their access to enhanced capabilities and superior performance.
Brent / Namco Product Manager, John Brennan explained: “Character customisation is fast becoming a ‘must have’ requirement amongst the hard core of streetwise players, mirroring real life; for many this aspect is an integral part of the game playing adventure.

Game personalisation, as in the case of F&F Drift using keypad PIN entry, provides an additional revenue stream beyond the conventional pay-and-play route; in testing up to 25 per cent of income was generated in this way.”

Unveiled to a global audience at the recent ASI show in Las Vegas, F&F Drift will be available for delivery in Europe ahead of the Whitsun break.

Its first ‘show’ performance is slated for London’s Park Avenue Open Day on Wednesday 6 June, after which it will go on tour as Brent Sales executives take a selection of their Fun Factory portfolio on an eight-week excursion around coastal resorts.

Brennan concluded: “The Fast and the Furious has proved itself a great success and judging by test figures F&F Drift is on course to emerge as the number one performer on the driving circuit.”

More Silver Strike Bowling Contests

May 1, 2007

As an addition to Twisted Supreme’s post yesterday about the guy who won a new Harley for playing Silver Strike Bowling, the Silver Strike Bowling website lists the winners for each weekly and monthly contest they are holding online. Incredible Technologies is working hard to get the word out about their game and they are offering $3000 USD a week to one lucky player. Also, Robert Guibord is listed as having won the grand prize for April of a trip to Las Vegas. This month they are giving away a new Ford Mustang! It’s quite impressive to see an arcade maker giving away these kinds of prizes – it sure beats the heck out of trying to win a plush doll with Redemption tickets.

Paradise Lost Officially Released

May 1, 2007

“GLOBAL VR® today announced that it is beginning to ship production units of the highly anticipated “super-shooter,” Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is inspired by Ubisoft’s hit game Far Cry Instincts®. Providing a completely new gaming experience, one which is designed with the arcade industry in mind, Paradise Lost takes players to a tropical island paradise gone awry. Lush tropical forests and sandy beaches belie the danger that awaits players as they move through a fantasy world of non-stop action. When asked for comment about the game Jeff Shotwell, Paradise Lost Producer, said, “The development of this game was truly a collaborative effort. We have gone the extra mile to make sure that Paradise Lost is clearly differentiated from all other games in the location and offers an experience like none other!” He went on to point out that Paradise Lost is one of the few games ever manufactured that offers players a sit-down shooting experience; what GLOBAL VR refers to as a super-deluxe cabinet. “This is a game people are not going to simply walk by. Its compelling design and outstanding graphics entice players to stop and play!”

Game play elements include 2 player cooperative-action, 50 missions on 5 stunning maps, and a variety of weapons. When combined with force feed-back guns with solenoid action and a 52” rear projection LCD this sit-down super-deluxe shooter provides a totally unique gaming experience.

First seen in London at the ATEi Show January 2007, Paradise Lost was introduced to the domestic market at last month’s ASI show where, many industry pundits agreed, Paradise Lost may just be a paradise found!”

Ignoring the hype/spin factor, this game may do pretty well since it closely follows the Far Cry universe (despite dumping the Far Cry name from the title). Either way big cabinets attract a lot of attention but they demand a lot of cash from arcade operators so it may be a little while before the game shows up at smaller arcades .

Dragon's Lair Could Be Headed To The Big Screen

May 1, 2007

dragonslairb.jpg

You may recall Dragon’s Lairgetting a re-release on Blu-Raynot too long ago. Well now it seems that creator, Don Bluth, is hoping to realize his work on the big screen. IGN Movies says that there is an interview in the re-release with Bluth and producers that “mention that not only do they have a completed script, but also that they’ve taken a few meetings in recent months.” Gary Goldman, also one of the creators, goes on to say that Bluth “has boarded some of it already. It’s a funny, funny script. … The movie is actually a prequel. You’ll follow Dirk from birth until he becomes a knight.”

The series seems to be making a come back of late, next we’ll be seeing a new version for the Wii. Hey, that might work!

Mini Arcade Cabinet Madness

May 1, 2007

Just look at this baby!

imgp4112-small.jpg

A really great friend brought back this very cool mini arcade cabinet from Japan. It is actually an enclosure for a Playstation controller which I think was released for the Space Invaders Anniversary but the attention to detail is incredible, it even has metal legs.

  imgp4113-small.jpg

Lift up the lid and inside you can mount a PS2 controller and use the external joystick and buttons to play! Just look at that lovely mechanical engineering  🙂

I am soooo tempted to try and mount a tiny LCD screen inside this and turn it into a self contained arcade cabinet but this would mean lots of work and possibly ruining the cabinet in the process…..what should I do?????

I am going to have to let the world decide for me so head on over to the Forum and vote!!!

If you say YES then I will document the conversion and probably run an ongoing thread in the Forum. If you say NO then I will put it on a high shelf and get it out for special occasions only

Arcade Heroes please help me decide……………
