Konami's new bemani game: Reflec Beat

June 26, 2010

We first heard about Konami’s latest addition to their line-up of bemani games some time ago but despite a number of location tests in Japan, they did a pretty good job of preventing any pictures or video of the game from getting out onto the internet. Fortunately that information embargo on the new Reflec Beat has come to an end as Dasbacon of Bemanistyle.com has posted a video of the game in action. There is no question that the game has DJ Max Technika in it’s sights, with greater focus on reflexive action than other finger music games I have seen. See for yourself in the video below – Reflec Beat seems destined to be one of those games you’ll only see as a special import out of Japan on a rare occasion but you never know.

How’s this for an air hockey table?

February 18, 2009

What would you do if you had a 103″ plasma screen laying around? Why turn it into a touch screen air hockey game of course! At least that’s what they did in Amsterdam for ISE 2009, by combining a Panasonic 103″ plasma TV with something called the U-Touch overlay by uicentric. It would be cool to see this in an arcade although if it were me it would be under pretty strict rules and cost a bit more than regular air hockey to make sure that no one mucks with it the same way they mess with my air hockey table at times.

Then again, it’d be far less of a hassle (and less expensive) just to have a real air hockey table. 😛

BOUND – a co-op touchscreen arcade game

September 6, 2008

Here is another testament to innovative ideas that can be done better in an arcade format, a game designed by two students for a university project somewhere in Germany I believe (the PC I’m on at the moment is at my arcade so it’s hard to hear the sound on this). The idea has to do with co-operative gameplay where each player has a touchscreen to use. The video will explain it better below but I would love to have one of these in my arcade to build on my desire to offer something different you dont’ get at home. Video posted by youtube user IISiJII

BTW- This isn’t the first student made arcade game we’ve mentioned, there was another back in December called Defend Earth where they built their own hardware from the ground up to run the game.
