Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Announced, coming Summer 2011

September 18, 2010

With the move just about complete (please let me know what you think of the Theme – the one we had been using doesn’t seem to be available so I’m changing it up) I have some time to post about the big news that came out while we were moving the site.

The producer of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada made an announcement while TGS was taking place but more specficially at the Super Battle Opera, a popular fighting tournament in Japan that we’ve covered in the past. To everyone’s surprise it was a new Tekken game that wasn’t exactly Tekken 7 but instead, a followup to Tekken Tag Tournament. TTT2 will be coming out in arcades next Summer in Japan, prior to the release of Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter (in that order). The Tekken 6 engine has been modified for this game to allow for the extra characters on screen and the control scheme will be like that of the first Tekken Tag Tournament.

2011 will be an excellent year for fighting games although for us arcade purists the probable console releases loom over that positive outlook for next year. Hopefully Namco will be able to release TTT2 for much less than they did T6.

Here’s the trailer, it’s actual in-game footage. Fingers crossed I can get the Youtube embedding to work…

Also since we’re on the subject, Kotaku has the footage of the new SSFIV Arcade characters Yun and Yang (thanks Phil)

Virtua Fighter Vs. Tekken? Namco is talking about it

April 14, 2009

Anyone familiar with fighters knows that some of the best games involve a crossover of two series of some sort. One of the most popular fighters out there today is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and there have been rumblings of a third installment coming along in that series; more recently we saw Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom and in the past we’ve seen SNK Vs. Capcom. But while Capcom has seemed to get all of the crossover love, there are two other series that might clash together if Tekken 6’s director gets his way : Virtua Fighter Vs. Tekken. Right off the bat I can see some problems with this – since the two games are very different so what style would would the game follow – VF or TK or something new competely? That is a very tough line to follow but if the fans want it, they just might get it. What are your thoughts on a possible VF Vs. TK game?

[Via The Stinger Report]

Namco has begun testing Tekken 6 in the US and we have an exclusive look at the test cabinets which are at the IAAPA 2007 event, thanks to our friends at The Stinger Report. According to TSR, the game is 80% complete and uses the Japanese style cabinets each with an IC card reader so players will be able to keep track of their player and port it over to another cabinet. Tekken: The Movie – Poster

November 2, 2007

I should really pay attention more to upcoming movie releases because this one completely caught me unaware. As long as it’s as good as Mortal Kombat (sorry, but I liked it), and not as awful as Street Fighter this could be worth checking out. Above is the first poster image released for the film, unfortunately it doesn’t give much away.
