House of the Dead EX revealed at Sega’s Summer Conference

So House of the Dead fans have been wondering for a while now if there would be a HOTD5 and at the latest Sega event in Japan, that idea has been given some attention with the revelation of a new House of the Dead title – not 5 but ‘EX’. Slated for release this December, HOTD EX looks almost a little goofy and it either will have different mini-shooting games or it’s poking fun at them in the flyer, it’s hard to say at the moment. You might also notice that the cabinet that they are using is quite familiar, it’s a modification of the 2Spicy cab to handle 2 players on one cabinet. You may also notice that the cabinet includes a foot switch, much like Time Crisis which is something new for the game. As to what it will be used for exactly is hard to say until a translation comes along so we will have to wait and see on that one. I wonder if the female character will be made to declare “This isn’t happening!” about 50 times throughout a level, which is what it seems like in HOTD4. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one to find out exactly what it entails, I’m not sure how fans would react if it were a shooting gallery type game but those could be bonus levels too .

Also Sega’s new drift racer, R-Tuned is slated for a December release as well. I am a little surprised that it’s still that far off but if the extra time makes the game better then more power to Sega. Here’s a flyer for R-Tuned that has tiny pictures of the actual game, don’t you just love that? (so click on our thumbnail to enlarge :P)

So, anyone still think that the arcade industry is dead or are all these game announcements finally putting a crack into that line of thought?

First there was Tokyo Drift, then Need For Speed Carbon and now Sega is throwing it’s hat into the street racing arena with another new racing game called R-Tuned Ultimate Street Racing. There is very little information on the game at the moment other than a teaser site announcing it’s location test in Japan which starts today and goes until the 29th. The game is developed by AM2 and runs on the Lindbergh hardware and it uses a modified RaceTV cabinet. There is a teaser site up for the game that you can visit by clicking below and one site already has had a look at the game where they report that the game employs a save card system and even has drifting in it. I think this makes 12 racers I know of coming to arcades in some form but we’re putting together a master list of arcade releases in the forum and so it might end up being more once we have it all written down.
