Big Buck Safari passes 5000 units sold

September 2, 2009

bbs1

I have mentioned before that we don’t often get sales numbers for arcade titles but Raw Thrills has had a few hits over the past year or so that they reveal such information on and this time we have word on Big Buck Safari. According to the press release they have now sold 5000 standard units and 500 deluxe units of the game to various locations. It still has a way to go before catching up with it’s sister game, Big Buck Hunter, which surpassed 10,000 units sold over it’s lifespan of three years.

It would be great to know what the sales numbers are for all of the coin-op games out there, I’m sure that would help any prospective developers know what they’ll be getting into with a particular type of game although that is probably one of the reasons why we don’t see this information made public too often. Keep in mind that while these numbers would look pretty small compared to console sales figures, for the current arcade industry any game passing 5000 units sold is pretty good.

Terminator: Salvation Arcade seen on location test

June 20, 2009

[Thanks to Malovane for sending us these shots]

As arcade location tests are rarely announced in the US, at times savvy gamers who frequent game websites visit their local arcade and just so happen to come across these secret location tests. One player has done this and has come across the Terminator: Salvation arcade game, which is being done by Play Mechanix (who has done both Aliens: Extermination and Big Buck Hunter/Safari) and Raw Thrills. You might recall that we posted about this rumor a little while ago and while we didn’t have many details on it at the time, with this revelation we learn quite a bit about the upcoming title. As you can see, the cabinet is just like the deluxe cabinet for Big Buck Safari, which a large LCD screen. Of course the cabinet could change by the time they release it but I imagine that it would be easier to use these modified cabinets. It is interesting to see how they made a “Sneak Preview” version of the game for the location test, I have not heard of using this technique before but it certainly is a good idea. The artwork on this cab is pretty good although at the moment you can’t really tell how it performs graphically. More information will probably be forthcoming so stay tuned. Jerad’s Choice BBH Online Tourney

November 12, 2008

Sorry about the lack of updates the past few days – I’ve been busy, busy ,busy with the arcade and other things in life. It seems like when one machine breaks down they all decide to take a trip with it. I can just say at least most machines carry a 1 year warranty. Those that don’t deserve harsh criticism (90 days, are you flippin’ kidding me?) but that’s a fun subject for a later time.

Right now, BBH Online players have another tournament to look forward to, called Jerad’s Choice. Jerad Berg jerad_screenis the winner of the recent BBH World Championship and he has picked his own tourney to hold for November. Like usual, all you need to do is find a BBH Online machine and give it a ‘shot’ (har har) in the online tournament mode and you have a chance at winning $500, with additional payouts in smaller amounts going out to the other 99 placers. So your chance of winning something at the very least is quite good! Hit the post break for more information on the tourney from the press release. In the meantime, I know that we can expect to hear about Big Buck Safari Online tournaments shortly, so stay tuned.

Outcome from the Big Buck Hunter Pro World Championship

October 31, 2008

I meant to get to this a couple of days ago but unfortunately I’ve been a little tied up and there is a lot of news to post all of the sudden. But that’s all right, a lot of news is better than little or no news.

As you know, the Big Buck Hunter 2008 World Championship took place back on Oct. 18th and it sounds like it was a blast to witness. It was a double elimination tournament and in the end it came down to two players, Dan Mundschau and Jerad Berg. As the press release states, it was a very close (and thus exciting) match, catch the full rundown on the event after the break (along with extra pictures).
