Konami Japan launches DDR:X website

December 18, 2008

ddrxsite

The next installment of DDR is coming soon to arcades and with it, websites promoting the game. Konami Japan has upgraded it’s DDR:X site from the teaser with a little bit more info (in Japanese) on the game. There really isn’t much to look at right now but they still have several sections to unlock which I am sure will include more tiny screenshots. 🙂 I believe that we will see more of DDR:X at ATEI and who knows, maybe even AMOA/ASI.

Hit the link below to check it out.

Wheel of Fortune Pinball by Stern

October 2, 2007

backglass1.jpg

At AMOA 2007, Stern unveiled it’s next pinball table, Wheel of Fortune. WoF Pinball is looking to re-introduce certain aspects that haven’t been seen in pinball games for some time. The cabinet itself fits with the style of the show, with lots of gradient colors and an wofcab.jpgeye-catching backglass design. The backglass even features an old Stern slogan “Play Pinball It’s More Fun To Compete”. Some of the new features are a new design for the dot-matrix display, with scores on the left side, puzzles on the right (with more room dedicated to the puzzles). There also is an LED display right above the flippers on the playfield. To describe a few more differences, Pinball News describes it best:

Wheel of Fortune departs from the traditional arrangement by including two rollover lane between the flippers like those found in games such as Wayne Nyens’s Cow Poke and Buckaroo. This provides a centre post for straight-down-the-middle balls and gives the chance of a Super Spin if the balls rolls over a lit lane.

The two outlanes are divided in two as they head towards the outhole, providing the opportunity for a free spin

We also see the re-introduction of star rollovers on the playfield for the B-O-N-U-S letter jackpots.

wofflip.jpgWheel of Fortune Pinball is set for release next month in November. Head over to Pinball News for the whole deal, along with a few more pictures.

‘Action Detective’ by Konami uses new motion controls for beat ’em up gameplay

With the AM Show over an done with, it is a little disheartening seeing all of the games that Japanese manufacturers are working on, knowing that many of them will not be released overseas. That might be the case with a new title from Konami that is currently in location testing in Japan called ‘Action Detective’.

From what little we can find out about this game, it certainly is interesting. Using what appears to be motion sensing controls, the players will be able to punch at enemies and guard against attacks using the hand controllers, as well as discharge a firearm by using a trigger built into the controls. While I hesistate to say that they might be inspired by the Wii (seeing how motion sensitive controls have existed long before Nintendo came around with them, and Konami has been one of the few manufacturers pushing such technologies in arcades for a while now), it’s hard to say that the success of that console hasn’t had any effect on thought in the arcade sector.  The game also comes with a 50″ widescreen monitor, and from the description includes driving, shooting and punching gameplay all in one (basically it’s the three of the most popular arcade genres mixed into the same game) but includes interactivity that reaches new heights thanks to the unique controllers. Personally while all we have to go off of is this picture of the game for the location test, I’m intrigued by what I see so far – it’s something unique and if it controls well it could be quite a success overseas. We’ll keep an eye on this game and Konami, if you are listening, give it an international release!
