August 17, 2010

While we have posted numerous details on Namco’s newest racing game Dead Heat, which is due out this fall, we haven’t seen any in-depth video of the actual game in action, until now. This video is from Florida-based coin-op machine distributor BMI Gaming, who provided us with the footage from other games at the recent AAMA Distributor Gala. In case you need to catch up on those details about Dead Heat, you can read more about it here.

Namco unveils Pac-Man’s Arcade Party

August 13, 2010

Namco has already shown their enthusiasm in celebrating Pac-Man’s 30th anniversary with Pac-Man Battle Royale (due next month) but you can now add two arcade titles to the ways of how they are celebrating. An open house event(click for more pictures) was recently held at the Namco America HQ in Elk Grove Village, IL and in addition to some cake, the attendees had several new Namco games to check out – Tank! Tank! Tank!, Go Go Grand Prix, Dead Heat, Pac-Man Battle Royale and the newly unveiled Pac-Man’s Arcade Party.

For Pac-Man’s 25th anniversary Namco had a multi-game cabinet that they released to celebrate that event as well although it only contained three games – Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga. They also released some countertop versions of that game which featured the same game line-up on a small cabinet that could fit in a variety of places. This new release will feature twelve Namco classics: Pac-Man, Galaga, Pac-Mania, Galaxian, Rally X, Mappy, Dig Dug, Xevious, Bosconian, Galaga ’88, Rolling Thunder, and Dragon Spirit. For a display it will likely use an LCD monitor, like the 25th anniversary cabinets did. There is no release date or price listed for the unit at this time but it will certainly be released before the end of the year.

By looking at the effort Namco is throwing behind this 30th anniversary, I am beginning to wonder if they will be giving Galaga the same treatment next year as that game celebrates it’s 30th birthday. They converted Pac-Man C.E. from Xbox Live Arcade and there is a Galaga update on XBLA as well – could we see a four player return of Galaga to arcades in 2011?

UPDATE: There will be a home cabaret and a cocktail version of this cabinet in addition to the commercial version. (see comments below)

UPDATE#2 : Updated with the final cabinet design as provided by Namco

UPDATE#3: Pac-Man’s Arcade Party will be released before Christmas, possibly October but as late as November and the price point will be similar to the Pac-Man 25th Anniversary cabinets.

Video: Pac-Man Battle Royale production version

August 5, 2010

After that burst of news we had earlier this week, suddenly things dried up. So that makes it a perfect time to embed some videos. BMI Gaming, who captured footage of several new games from the AAMA Gala, also recorded the production version of Namco’s Pac-Man Battle Royale. The game is supposed to be released next month but with production models already showing up who knows if we could see it slightly earlier than that.

The AAMA (American Amusement Machine Association) held it’s 7th annual Distributor Gala this week, an event that generally gives us a sneak peek into what to expect in arcades in the fall. Replay Magazine was there and took plenty of pictures from the event, giving us a good look at these new games. You can see all of the pictures here on Replay’s Facebook page; click the link below to see the video arcade highlights, including the new Super Bikes 2, Dead Heat and AVATAR Pinball.

First look at Namco's Dead Heat (click to enlarge)

Way back in March, we found out that Namco was testing a new racing game that was called Dead Heat Street Racing. I found out a little on the game at Amusement Expo but since then we have been waiting to actually see the game. Namco had the slightly renamed Dead Heat title at the AAMA 2010 Distributor Gala and we also have a full run down on what players can expect from the game – which includes some innovative methods at getting players to come back for more. Click below for the details!
