Maximum Tune 3 gets a sequel – MT3 DX

August 4, 2008

We just received confirmation that Namco will be showing off a sequel to Midnight Maximum Tune 3 called (wait for it….) Midnight Maximum Tune 3 DX. All we know about it at the moment is that it will include new courses, cars and music and it will be shown next month at the JAMMA show. Stay tuned to what else will be coming along at JAMMA – hopefully Namco has something else up their sleeve.

So this adds another racer to the list, which has been added to our Master Arcade Release List for 2008. Let’s hope that the new game also carries a lower price tag than the original as well so more operators can get it.

Namco Brent ATEi 2008 Impressions

January 28, 2008

(More pictures after the break)Next up in the ATEi 2008 round up is the Namco Brent stand, and of course as all of you will know they had two sequels to two of the most popular games.

Now don’t get me wrong but I was a little pissed off as there was only one Tekken 6 cabinet at the show. Now I know I should be grateful, but it was nigh on impossible to get on it, and when I did I got my ass handed to me on a plate. Granted the later was more to do with me sucking at Namco’s latest beat ‘em up, but surely they could of mustered up more than one cabinet. Or is this just a sign of how unimportant beat ’em ups are to Europe. Saying that, the ATEi is supposed to be an international show. Who knows what the reason is, so back to the game itself (sorry rant over).

The game itself looks fantastic, the cabinet looks sweet as too. Note that the cabinet present had a two player set up, as apposed to the ones we’ve seen in Japanese location tests. These were single player cabs but network linked for Vs matches. Game play wise, from what I got to play that is, it had nice solid combat and what looked like some neat combos (note again –  I received these fore mentioned combos!). Also, as most of you will have seen from videos, the game has a monster character selection which gives the game a great amount of depth if you wish to learn more than one fighter, not that this is the case as most people have their favourites. Please take in to consideration also I’m not a huge Tekken fan, so please excuse my obvious lack of knowledge of the game. I’m more of a Street Fighter man, and anyone that wants to send me to AOU to check out number 4 in the series feel free to email me!

Namco also prepping for a big ATEI '08 – new Raw Thrills' title announced.

We’ve already heard from Sega and Konami so it was only a short time before Namco threw their hat into the ring of what to expect from them at ATEI.

From the press release it is obvious that redemption is quite important to Namco, and they will be showing off a number of new redemption titles including games with titles like ‘Barber Cut’, ‘Battle Forge’, ‘Hollywood Reels’, ‘NFL 2 minute challenge’, ‘3-in-a-row’, and ‘Crazy Typhoon’. From the looks of it, the redemption titles will outnumber the video selection but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be little to look forward to on that front.

Namco will of course be showing off the popular Maximum Tune 3, Time Crisis 4 and the highly anticipated Tekken 6 (which when I was talking with my local distributor today apparently still has no set release date here in the States). But Raw Thrills’ will finally be demonstrating one of their new 2008 titles – ‘Safari’ which is “an African-themed shooting game modelled on the proven Big Buck Hunter phenomenon.” This is the first time Raw Thrills’ will be debuting a title outside of the US. Whether this is one of the titles that Specular Interactive was working on or not remains to be seen but at least it’s not another Fast and Furious game. There is no word in the press release if they will be showing off Wacky Races but we’ll know soon enough.
