Reminder: Save the Arcades 2 competition ends Tuesday

June 13, 2010

Just a friendly remind here for those who want to take an active part in helping out an arcade out there – the STRIDE Gum Save the Arcades 2 competition is drawing to a close as whoever has the most points donated to them via the Cowbots flash game will win the $25,000 prize. At the moment Ground Kontrol in Oregon is in first place (in fact they are holding a big event all for the purpose of drawing attention to the competition), with Arcade Infinity in California in 2nd and Rocky’s Replay in 3rd. Any of those spots could change any moment depending upon how many points separate each business but we aren’t sure this time as the points are not being displayed publicly.

The question after this is, will STRIDE continue their campaign to help arcades that are out there? I certainly hope so as this has been a great idea on their part to really help some arcades out, even the ones who didn’t win the cash prizes get the benefit of some national attention, which usually spurs some extra local attention as well.

Get ready to "Pinbrawl" Sunday in Portland, OR

April 16, 2010

The pinball events just keep on coming, this time in Oregon. We were sent this reminder that this Sunday, April 18th is when Ground Kontrol in Portland, OR is holding their second annual Pinbrawl tournament, where the winner will be taking home a Johnny Mnemonic Pinball machine by Williams. $20 admission if you are a competitor, free if you’re just a spectator. There are only eight slots left at the moment of writing, so it’s going to be a packed house, which should mean more fun. More details can be found in our previous post about the event or on Ground Kontrol’s website.

Ground Kontrol announces the 2nd annual Pinbrawl Tournament

February 27, 2010

Last year an arcade in Portland known as Ground Kontrol hosted a large pinball tournament called Pinbrawl and by all accounts, it was a big success. So with one successful tournament of this caliber under their belts, they are preparing for a second Pinbrawl, which has been announced for April 18th. The grand prize that pinball wizards will be competing for: a full-sized Williams’ “Johnny Mnemonic” pinball machine. For only $20 admission as a competitor (for spectators it’s free) that’s a great deal – if you happen to beat out the possible 127 others who will show up. More juicy details can be found in the press release after the break.

Ground Kontrol presents the 1st annual Pinbrawl tournament

April 15, 2009

One of the best things about an arcade is that they give you a great place to go and compete. You don’t have to set up anything at home and worry about strangers coming into your house and unlike online tournaments, you can actually see and talk with your opponents face-to-face. So it’s a good thing that we’ve been seeing an uptick in tournament announcements that are taking place in different arcades across the country.

The latest tournament announcement comes to us from the famous Ground Kontrol Arcade in Portland Oregon. On April 19th they are going to hold a big pinball tournament where one lucky player will walk away with their own pinball machine. What machine that will be has not been announced yet (they will reveal it at the event) and players will compete on a number of GK’s 26 different pins. At $10 entry, it sounds like it’s going to be a blast of a brawl so good luck to those of you who compete! More details below after the jump.
