Two events to track this weekend: EVO 2009 and Insert Coin 09

July 18, 2009

Just a reminder that there are two big arcade events happening in two different parts of the world this fine summer weekend.

evo2k9

First is the expo all fighter fans look forward to, EVO 2009 in Las Vegas. So far it sounds like turnout has been exceptional to the event and thanks to reader Chris Ainsworth, here is a link to some photos of the first day.

UPDATE: Thanks to Aaron Auzins, here is a link to some live streams from the event provided by Capcom: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/evochampionship

UPDATE #2: Day 2 photos by Chris Ainsworth; also Daigo “The Beast” wins the SFIV tournament.

Next up, Insert Coin in Northampton, UK. There is a lot of fighting goodness to get there as well but on top of that they have many other types of games. The news page for Insert Coin (which includes a Twitter feed that is being constantly updated by Kevin Williams of the Stinger Report) can be found here.

News on Pinball Events in the UK for 2009

December 7, 2008

ukpinshow

[Thanks to Nick of ThePinballBlog for the information]

If you are a pinball fan and you live in the UK then next year you’ll have a great time thanks to several events that will see some huge pinball shows making their way to the country. First off, Pinballers Anonyomous is once again organzing the UK Pinball Show, which has become the largest pinball event in Europe where players can not only play from a variety of great games, they also can trade, buy parts and games, get advice for repairs and ukpinshowlogocollecting, etc. In addition to that, the European Pinball Championships (organized by PinballNews) will be held during the show where the best players in Europe will come together to compete for big prizes. Like with last year, they will be holding a big dinner and award ceremony that will feature a guest speaker (likely a pinball game designer) and it will certainly be quite the show to attend. The show will happen on July 24th-26th at Northampton Saints Rugby Club (in Northampton of course).

Then to sweeten the deal, a week after this show, the Pinball World Championships will be held at the home of Pinballers Anonyomous just outside of London. This marks the first time that the World Championships will take place outside of the US. The event will still span 3 days time as the best players in the world compete for the title of World Champion.

If there are more events beyond what was aforementioned here, we’ll be sure to let you know!

More positive ATEI and arcade coverage

February 7, 2008

It’s good to know that not everyone who visited ATEI thought that it meant that the arcade scene was just months away from certain doom. Between us and The Stinger Report, it seemed that we provided the only positive coverage of the event out there but I’m happy to say that we weren’t. From the Guardian Limited in the UK, here’s an overall positive report that actually states:

Despite the rise of the consoles, arcade games are seeing a resurgence by offering an experience you can’t get at home

This point is further driven by the fact that arcade manufacturers are saying the same thing. It’s safe to say that if the developers of arcade titles are saying that things are going well on the arcade scene then most likely they are. Hit the link below for the article.

Stinger's ATEI review @ SPoNG.com

February 6, 2008

The Stinger Report has pointed us to their ATEI review at SPoNG.com which includes some more photos and a nice overall review of what went on at ATEI. As long as an arcade event gets a little more coverage in the mainstream, I’m happy.

Hopefully I’ll be able to show up at the next big arcade show  (well after AOU) and that’s ASI.
