While most of the attention towards expos has been going towards GTI lately, there was another expo that took place recently in Dubai that involved amusement products and that was the Dubai Entertainment Amusement & Leisure show or DEAL 2010 for short. Kevin Williams of The Stinger Report had the opportunity to go there and check everything out, so let’s take a look.

If you are an arcade or Sega fan and you are headed to Dubai for some reason then you have a new attraction to check out while there, Sega’s new indoor theme-park called the Sega Republic. SR has 76,000 sq. ft. of entertainment goodness that is divided amongst five themed zones such as “Speed, Adventure, Sports, Cyberpop and Redemption”. The site features some of Sega’s latest simulator rides such as Storm-G and they even have a Sonic the Hedgehog ride that is based upon Dr. Eggman’s attempts to capture Sonic. They also have a halfpipe simulator that  features “a hi-tech snowboarding half-pipe that gives riders the thrill of throttling up and down a 7-metre incline at speeds of up to 40 km/hr.”

Naturally they also have a sizable arcade that features both video and redemption games and I imagine that it will take more than one visit to the Sega Republic to particpate in everything they have to offer.

Sega’s massive new entertainment facility in Dubai is getting ready to open it’s doors and with that, it is already putting it’s staff of 125 people through “intensive training sessions” on how the facility and it’s 250+ amusement games operate. Some of the video titles which will be available to play at the Sega Republic: Storm-G, Initial D4 Limited, OutRun 2 SDX, Let’s Go Jungle Special and more. There are plenty of new Sega-themed rides that will be available and they even have a “high-tech snowboarding half-pipe” that people can take a ride on.

While I have zero plans for visiting the Dubai area anytime soon, if I were going there for some reason I would definitely visit Sega Republic as it sounds like it’s going to be a top notch entertainment facility.

I don’t recall how long ago it was that we heard that Sega was building some sort of amusement park in Dubai but either way one of the people involved in the construction of said amusement park has begun posting pictures of the construction progress on a forum for theme parks. Called the Sega Republic, it looks like it will be pretty cool when it’s all said and done but I don’t envy the guy who has to put this all together and make it work, it looks like it’s a bit of a headache. There will be roller coaster rides and a drop tower and much more (I believe there will be something like Gameworks there too) so when it’s all said and done in a few years, it should be another fun place to visit if you go to Dubai.
