Stern press release on Batman

September 3, 2008

It’s no secret that batman: Dark Knight is an insanely popular and is currently the second highest grossing film of all time, right behind Titanic (which personally I never understood what all the fuss was about) and Stern Pinball is happy to have the only game out right now that has something to do with the new movie (since the video game has had some problems in getting made). They have issued a press release to remind everyone of how popular Batman is and to pick up their new pinball based on the new Batman.

I have had a chance to play this a couple of times and it is a cool game – the color scheme is great, I really like the crane toy but I haven’t seen the Joker toy in action enough to comment on it. In fact because my Indiana Jones pin has been so popular (even more popular than my Movie Stop redemption game) I have been thinking of getting Batman. My only real complaint about the game is the lack of audio or scenes from the new movie, which does have a few things but they are rather brief from what I have seen so far. They obviously have permission to use stuff from the movie but I don’t see why they can’t get more to make the experience feel more complete. The same problem exists with the Crystal Skull ramp on Indiana Jones – it’s pretty lackluster against what happens with the other movies. Game updates are still being released for Batman every week however and it seems to improve a little each time so it probably will just take a little more time to be complete.

Batman Dark Knight Review

August 7, 2008

This insanely indepth review of Batman Dark Knight is absolutely worth checking out. As well as detailing every feature of the game, there’s also some great pictures, although I think we posted these a while back. One of the cool things about Batman is that it uses a variety of actual action figures on the table. Batman, Joker and Scarecrow feature as well as a Hot Wheels Batmobile. Head over to Pinball News now to get the full lowdown of Sterns latest table.

Some short videos of Batman: Dark Knight Pinball

July 24, 2008

I was wondering how long it was going to be before someone grabbed some video of Stern’s newest pin, Dark Knight and after checking youtube it looks like we’ve got something to watch. I do plan on getting some video of it myself here shortly but for now this will do. I really like the way that the crane works – I wasn’t sure how it was supposed to work but it seems to work out nicely. Video posted by user 14carlos99.

First real images of Batman: Dark Knight Pinball

July 23, 2008

[Thanks IcePagoda!]

The Dark Knight is one awesome movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should as it’s worth it (even though they raised ticket prices at the theater, grrr). Now obviously there is going to be a lot of merchandise based upon the movie for some time to come but probably the best Dark Knight related item you can get your hands on is the new Dark Knight pinball by Stern. We finally have a look at the first images of the game and it looks great – I can’t wait to play it, which I should be able to do in the next few days as my local distributor should be getting on in.

From the pictures it looks like the toys inside are pretty cool, along with the different mechanical devices such as the crane arm with a magnet inside or the Joker Spinner. The only thing I can see that I’m not excited about are the unprotected playfield lamps that are placed above the bumpers near the flippers – Indiana Jones does the same thing and I’ve already to replace one of these lamps since the ball can hit them and shatter the lamp, which is a blast to clean out . Next from Stern Pinball: Dark Knight

June 19, 2008

While I was at my distributor the other day I heard some interesting news on the pinball front as to what is next from Stern, but with my busy schedule lately I haven’t had a chance to post about it until now. As you read in the headline, Stern is currently preparing to release their next game based upon the new vision of Batman by Christopher Nolan, bringing elements of Batman Begins and Dark Knight into one pinball table. The game has not been shown publicly yet AFAIK but the word is that Stern is wanting to release the game in time for the release of the Dark Knight movie so that would mean that it should be showing up at distribution hubs within the next few weeks. We’ll be keeping an eye out for it in the meantime.
