BlazBlue: Continuum Shift landing in some US arcades

December 8, 2009

There are plenty of fighters to choose from these days and one fighter that has been turning heads all year long is BlazBlue. Released to arcades last year, the game soon saw a console port which expanded the number of people who became interested in the game. Now Aksys has released a follow-up to the game for arcades only (I haven’t heard if this update will stay exclusive to arcades or if it’s a timed exclusive) called BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and I have already found a couple of arcades in the US who have the game, Arcade UFO and Arcade Infinity. Arcade Infinity has been posting a bunch of BB:CS videos to their youtube account and suffice it to say, this still looks simply awesome. How many other US facilities will be importing the game remains to be seen – I would love to get one but there is always that problem of money. Still, I am trying to find a way as this looks too good to pass up and fighters do fairly well in my venue even though what I have is 10+ years old for that genre.

Here is a video of the new BlazBlue taken by Arcade Infinity.

A few more details on BlazBlue: Continuum Shift

The details continue to trickle out on the new BlazBlue update and there is one thing that is worth noting in this as we hear from AH contributor, Aaron Auzins:

“Location testings in the Kansai and Kyushu regions of Japan:
Osaka – Oct. 24-25
Fukuoka – Oct. 31-Nov. 1

This testing will mark the first time the characters Hazama and Tsubaki Yayoi will be playable along with a new beginner mode configuration to make the gameplay easier for those not accustomed to the game.

The title will stick to using the TAITO Type X2 board and Arc System Works in currently expecting a “winter 2009″ release date.”

Emphasis is my own there. One nice thing about any fighter is that pretty much any player can walk up to it, mash the buttons and get something done but IMO “easy” modes help new players feel like the game is within their league as opposed to outside of it (until they come across an expert player of course). This won’t be the first time such modes have been used in fighters, I’m watching someone play Marvel VS. Capcom as I write this and most of the time players select the easy mode when it is offered to them.

Blazblue gets an update with Continuum Shift (updated)

September 26, 2009

bbluecsThere is another HD fighter out there that is turning heads in arcades and it’s not SFIV but the Guilty Gear-like BlazBlue. Personally I have not played BlazBlue yet although I have had a number of customers call me inquiring about the game and it seems to be generating a decent bit of excitement among those who have played it. As such it should come as good news to fans and operators who bought the arcade that the arcade version is getting an update called BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. The update will add new modes, characters and levels to spice up the game. As a side note, BlazBlue did get an international release outside of Japan in both the US and Europe so I imagine that this update will also be available in those territories not long after it’s release.

UPDATE: Small Rooms Aries is reporting that there was up to a five hour wait time to play the new BlazBlue update at a recent location test.
