Amusement Expo 2010: Raw Thrills/Betson, TrioTech booth

March 13, 2010

Here are several different booths for one post, hope you enjoy.

First is the Raw Thrills’/Betson booth. Many were distracted at this booth not so much by the game but by the scantily clad pole dancing booth babes at the adjacent Apple Industries booth.  I had to avoid filming that so the video isn’t flagged (and we need to stay focused here 😉 ). At the booth they had Terminator Salvation, H2Overdrive, Big Buck Hunter Open Season, and the new Wheel of Fortune video redemption game. Terminator was running what was likely to be the release software, which now sports cut scenes, voice acting and updated graphics from the IAAPA build. There was a surprise with H2Overdrive there – they now have 32″ H2Overdrive cabs that are intended for smaller locations and budgets. In addition to the smaller screen it also lacks some of the LED attract lights on the back but it’s still a nice cabinet. These will likely run $700-$800 below the deluxe versions. Also for a new product was Wheel of Fortune. While it’s a video redemption title, think of Deal or No Deal (which also has a street version that dispense different kinds of tickets for locations that can’t take redemption tickets) in where they are going with this. The game has a spinner controller for spinning the big wheel and an HD touch screen for selecting letters.

Here is something I missed from IAAPA by TrioTech – the new Stomper DLX. It’s a modified version of their UFO Stomper that can fit into more venues that it’s predecessor could. The system works out in the same way by detecting the players foot movements and it includes a variety of mini-games they can play. I’m not sure what the price is on this one but it certainly is in a lower realm than UFO Stomper was.

PUTT Championship Edition gets an update; a little more on Galactix

December 10, 2009

I saw PUTT Championship Edition at Betson’s IAAPA booth but what I didn’t realize at the time was that they were showcasing an updated version of the game there. Thanks to a press release sent out today, now I know that, and knowing is half the battle. The other half would be the details – they have added a new course and an option for ticket dispensation so the game can serve as a redemption game if the operator so desires it. The 9-hole course addition brings the number of  holes up to 27 and hopefully will equal more replay value for operators who have already purchased the game.

In addition to that we received a press release for one of the more interesting video redemption games seen at IAAPA, Galactix by Chicago Gaming. Even though it’s a redemption game I find this to be great concept as the way they made the game is a bit different from other things I have seen in the coin-op sector in a while. Galactix is a six player game where the coin serves as your controller – once inserted it launches a missile on the screen and if you time it just right you can hit the center target for 100 tickets. This is quite difficult of course as there are many obstacles in the way so it’s more likely that you’ll end up hitting a target of lesser ticket value. It’s both simple and eye-catching, so I imagine that it will be a popular item for redemption centers that pick it up.

Terminator Salvation Arcade coming to IAAPA next week

November 13, 2009

(Click on the image above for a more detailed view)

We first heard about a Terminator Salvation arcade title way back at ASI in March and except for a brief view of the game on a location test in June, there has been little else to say about the game since information surrounding it has been kept under wraps. But thanks to a new press release sent out by Betson today, we have our first proper look at the game, including what should be the final cabinet design. As you can see from the picture above, they have changed the cabinet up quite a bit since the location test (which at the time was using just a Big Buck Safari Deluxe cabinet with different artwork. The size of the guns is positioning this game to compete with titles like Rambo Deluxe or Ghost Squad Deluxe  and I assume we’ll be able to find out how much the game will cost next week. According to the press release (which is attached after the post break below) they also added a new reloading feature to the game that they are calling Clip action reload. While the press release doesn’t get into any details on how that works, it appears that you will reload by hitting the clip on the bottom of the gun. Where this will be at IAAPA next week I will be getting some more pictures, video and info on this new title, which will be appearing in arcades “soon”. As a side note, this is NOT the same game that graced the consoles earlier this year so no worries in the event that you were disappointed with that game.

UPDATE: Click here to watch a video I took of the game from the IAAPA show floor.

Betson: 2000 Guitar Hero units have been sold in three months

June 10, 2009

We don’t often get sales numbers for arcade titles but Betson has sent me a press release where they are highlighting the success of one of Raw Thrills’ most recent games, Guitar Hero. With 2000 units sold in three months, it’s nothing to shirk at in the arcade sector – 10,000 units (in total sales over the lifespan of the product)  is generally the magic number in arcade sales and it looks like GH is well on it’s way to reaching that. The release highlights that the game has been a success at Coinstar units in Wal-Mart stores across the country and that many operators have also begun to capitalize on the contests that can be done with the game.  Hit the post break for the release

Upcoming equipment spotlight shows by Betson

May 8, 2009

Betson Enterprises has sent us a couple of press releases detailing a couple of upcoming spotlight events for operators, the first two events will take place back-to-back in Oklahoma on May 12th and the 13th and then next month on June 3rd, they will hold another spotlight show in New Jersey. The shows will spotlight many new products that operators can look forward to buying and it also will feature several seminars that focus on generating more revenue through various methods. According to the lists I don’t see any new arcade titles on there that we haven’t heard about previously although you never know if they will slip a surprise in there or not. Stern’s new NBA pinball will be there along with a lot of redemption product so if you are in the area it’s worth dropping in and checking it out. More details can be found in the press releases after the break.

Incredible Technologies & Betson form an alliance

July 18, 2008

It’s hard to keep track on distributor/manufacturer relations sometimes and if you visit distributor websites you sometimes find that they carry products from one company but not another. It’s obviously in the best interest for manufacturers to get their product distributed through as many avenues as possible and it’s in the interest of the distributor to get as many different products in their line-up as possible.

In regards to that, Incredible Technologies and Betson have announced an alliance where they are teaming up to distribute IT products once again. To anyone out there who gets most of their product from Betson this is good news if you’re in the market for an IT game. Hit the post break for the press release.

Eighth Annual H. Betti Industries Golf Outing Charity Event

April 26, 2008

Betson has announced the eighth annual H. Betti Industries Golf Outing, a charitable event whose proceeds typically go to the Tomorrow’s Children Fund but this year will be going to help out one of their own who is on disability leave and may not be able to return to work. Last year’s event also went to benefit another Betson employee who was disabled. The event will occur on the 4th of June at the Beaver Brook County Club in Annandale, NJ with registration at 11:30AM, a shotgun start @ 12:30PM with cocktails @ 5:30PM followed by dinner.

Personally I stink at golf but I think it’s great to see events like this. Maybe I have just been paying more attention but it seems like there are many more charity events happening this year and it also appears that they are doing well.
