A few more AOU videos – Gaia Attack 4, Jigsaw World Arena, Puzzle of Ocha, Speed Rider

February 21, 2010

Just a few more videos from AOU I’ve found featuring things to round-up the weekend.

Taito’s Gaia Attack 4. It’s good to see it in action – they used video of real world environments and have overlaid them with 3D  graphics. There’s an interesting Ghostbusters style mini-game at the beginning of this video.

Jigsaw World Arena. This is another new puzzle game that uses the PGM2 hardware for solid 2D performance. This is a four player title that looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Puzzle of Ocha, the other PGM2 powered puzzle game that we had spoke of recently. Nice to see it in action.

Speed Rider by IGS.

And some of Namco’s games at AOU will be…

Namco has revealed some of the content that they will be showing off at AOU, which includes a new Gundam VS. title and Midnight Maximum Tune 3 DX + (which I am pretty sure we have heard of before). Games we have seen/played previously which will also be at the show include Dead Storm Pirates and Tank! Tank! Tank!; no word on if Go Go Grand Prix will be making an appearance or not but that is one game I am looking forward to seeing mroe of (it will be at the Amusement Expo in Vegas next month).

Taito’s AOU site opened

February 6, 2010

Continuing with the pre-AOU hype, Taito revealed their AOU website today. It’s not as descriptive as AOU sites by other companies that we have seen so far and it appears that they will be filling information in as to what games will be there as the show approaches. From the image on the site it looks like Music Gun Gun will be there and I have to imagine that their new table flipping game and Cyber Diver will be there as well. I wonder if Taito will be revealing any remakes/reboots at the show, as they have done in recent AOU shows with Elevator Action: Death Parade.

Konami details their AOU line-up

January 29, 2010

Thanks to and Aaron Auzins for the info.

EAG and ATEI aren’t the only shows to talk about in the arcade world these days as AOU in Japan is coming up before too long in Februrary. In anticipation for that show, Konami has launched a new site showing off the goods that they plan to bring to the show. Most of the products are bemani-related – DDRX2, GuitarFreaks XG (which appears to have a pretty awesome sound system), DrumMania XG and a new entry to Jubeat called Jubeat Knit (remember that outside of Japan this one is called UBeat or Jukebeat depending upon the version).

Outside of the bemani realm Konami also has a tile game called Tenkaichi Shogikai, Quiz Magic Academy VII and Mahjong Fight Club.

Of course one thing we are all curious about is where is Metal Gear Arcade? As this was announced at E3 last year, replete with photos of the cabinet, I had expected something by now. But the AOU page does have a big “Coming Soon” pic that could indicate MGA – or something else. At least the show is only a few weeks away so we’ll know soon enough.

AOU sites for Sega and Konami

February 5, 2009

ATEI has come and gone and that means that the next big show is AOU in Japan, where Japanese manufacturers show off all of their great products which you may or may not find outside of that country in the near future. This AOU will probably be quite interesting to see and it’s too bad I couldn’t go over to Japan to check it out but at least we’ll have plenty of news come along to fill us in.

As a preview into what will be at the show, we have Sega and Konami’s official AOU sites, which show off what we can expect to see there. Strangely Sega is not listing Border Breakam_gashaaaan2_main (their new mecha game) on the page, preferring to showcase Block Pipo (Brick People elsewhere) and Virtua Fighter 5R; Konami has several products they will be showcasing including the new “Gashaaaan!”, a ball-as-a-controller throwing game with an unusual name (pictured in the thumbnail there). Hit the links below to check it out.

AOU 2008 Begins

February 15, 2008

AOU 2008 has begun in Japan and with it come images. AM Net has posted a number of images up to their site already and expect to see more over the next few days from them as they are pretty much the arcade authorities in Japan. The first images are pretty good, showing a number of booths from various Japanese arcade companies and the best thing about the images at the moment is they were taken without many people around so you can see everything each booth has to offer. A few of the games you can see is Arcana Heart, MaxiTune 3, BlazBlue, Sega’s UFO Catcher (also shown at ATEI), a new racer called Final Turn, Samurai Spirits, D1GP, the new King of Fighters ’98, The Lord of Vermilion, and last but not least (as this is the game that most western news outlets are only paying any attention to) Street Fighter IV. The SFIV booth also happens to be the picture with the most people standing around in it so far so expect more pictures to show long lines. It’s safe to say that there is enough interest in the arcade version of SFIV that Capcom would be stupid to not release it in that form outside of Japan although who knows what they plan to do since eventual console releases are also planned for the game. If we learn anything else from the event, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Preview of Taito’s AOU booth

Japanese arcades might be suffering a little at the moment but that won’t cancel the upcoming AOU 2008 show in Japan next week. Thanks to the Stinger Report, here is a mock-up view of what Taito’s booth will look like. From this it looks fairly impressive and you can tell there are a number of Viewlix cabinets to the right and what might be a banner for Samurai Spirits. You may also notice the banners for the 30th anniversary of Space Invaders which we brought up just a few posts ago. Expect to see more next week!
