Gone Fishin’ Impressions

September 5, 2007

I finally had a chance to try out the Gone Fishin’ game that I mentioned in one of my first posts on Arcade Heroes. It’s actually pretty fun although it certainly wouldn’t do that well on it’s own. It comes as part of a package of games on a touchscreen system by JVL. When you first get into the game it gives you options for modern or classic games. Gone Fishin’ can be found in the classic game section. Once you start it tells you how to play and then begins. At first I screwed up as I pressed the wrong place on the screen, then I noticed the bear nose in the lower right hand corner. The game is about timing and hitting the fish that jumps out of the hole at the right moment before it falls back in. The fish will fly along, slide, bounce or sometimes nose-dive straight into the snow. The object of the game is to get as many fish to fly the furthest away from your spot as possible. The game gives you about a minute to play and it’s actually a lot of fun. I didn’t have time to try out any of the other touchscreen games but I will give those a try next time I drop by my distributors place.

Merit Entertainment has released an update for their touchscreen table-top arcade games called Force 2007.5. This is a free update for operators that run these machines and it adds 17 new titles and enhancements to previous games to the mix, including Outlaw Poker, Draggle Drop, Office Bash, Chug Monkey, UNO, Luxor, Coco Loco, Hollywood Match and Linked Texas Hold’em 3. Merit’s touchscreen games at the restaurant, bar or some arcade locations are quite popular, pulling in 4.6 billion plays per year. Out and About – Wednesday Night

April 24, 2007

In what is going to become a new semi-regular posting, I thought it might be fun to take snaps of all the machines I come across on nights out. This is not to be confused with a venue review, but more of a ‘Can I get a focused picture of the games after I’ve had a few beers! Feel free to send in your snaps with a few words and I’ll post it up. Who knows, it could be fun and we may even discover a few rarities on the way!

Yates, Epsom.

Not much going on in this bar, just the usual Golden Tee and a touch screen terminal which included quiz games like Mouse Trap, Word Up and Bullseye.
