Flynn’s Arcade Tokens (updated w/ Space Paranoids cab)

July 22, 2009

flynn tokens

As some of you maybe aware there is a sequel on it’s way to the 1982 movie “Tron”. Well it looks like the marketing for the film has now begun with these really neat arcade tokens for Flynn’s arcade (featured in the original Tron).

Just realised how long it’s been since I’ve watched the original, must change that!space_paranoids

UPDATE: Here are a couple of new viral sites promoting Tron:Legacy  (which is supposedly the final name for the film, after they have changed it a bunch of times): Flynn Lives and Home of Tron. From Home of Tron they are showing a Space Paranoids arcade cabinet – which was never shown very well in the movie and it didn’t look quite like this. This leads me to wonder now – is there a chance that we could actually see Disney make a real Space Paranoids game and cabinet where you could find this at certain arcades out there? If so, I wonder how you could possibly sign up for that, I’d love to have a Space Paranoids cabinet at my arcade and do my little part to hype the Tron movie. 😉 – Shaggy

And for an extra blurb, AICN has some shots of the concept art shown at Comic-Con. It looks really good so far.

The Making of Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game

June 26, 2008

[Kotaku via Game Life]

Is the Street Fighter Movie one of the worst movies ever and is Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game one of the worst games ever? More than likely, but I some how can’t help look back at them with a feeling of weird fondness. That’s why I’m loving all these pictures that have sprung up courtesy of Alan Noon – who posted a ton of info on the game last year. Also it had Kylie in a leotard, what’s not to like!

Leonardo DiCaprio as Nolan Bushnell in new movie called “Atari”

June 8, 2008

I have never really liked movies based upon video games – they always seem to miss the mark by a mile and end up disappointing. But it is not often that Hollywood decides to do a movie based upon game history so I guess I can give it the benefit of the doubt – for now although these types of stories are generally better fit for TV documentaries rather than movies. Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to portray Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari and who is widely considered the grandfather of video games. In the pitch made to Paramount, they are going to shoot for a cross between Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Tucker for the biopic of the famous company that started it all but as to what period in Atari’s history it will cover is anyone’s guess and to how accurate it will be also will be up for debate.

As you know I hold a great respect for Atari so I really hope that they don’t botch it up although the current company that owns and uses the Atari name has done worse over the past few years (minus the Flashback 2). I’m sure we can expect to see a number of arcade games in the movie at least but just because a movie has arcades in it doesn’t automatically make it good (i.e. Joysticks).

Altar of the Unnamed Casting Call

March 20, 2008

altarphotops3.jpg

Back in January we reported that a filmmaker was working on a movie about a teenager obsessed with playing video games and that they would be filming at the awesome Funspot  Family Entertainment Center in New Hampshire, USA.  Today on the KLOV Forums they posted a casting call for the movie called “The Altar of the Unnamed” looking for a number of extras to come and participate in the film from March 25th-29th at Funspot. In addition to regular players they also are looking for some children for a birthday party scene. They will be filming on the 3rd floor.

If you love games and want a chance to be in a film about arcades then this is one way to go. That and it’s at Funspot – I’d be happy to show up, if I lived anywhere close by. For the full request as was posted on the KLOV Forums, hit the post break .

First shots of Indiana Jones Pinball

March 17, 2008

indyback.jpg

Pinball News has the first shots of the new Stern pinball machine, Indiana Jones. While the new machine is set to launch close to the release of the upcoming movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the pin itself integrates elements from allindyplay.jpg four movies in the series from the art on the backglass to the toys such as the Ark of the Covenant, a Temple of Doom captive ball with a rising saucer shot, and a ramp with something to do with the Crystal Skull. The pin pictured is just a prototype, with some missing artwork and a couple of other elements but either way it’s good to see Indiana Jones back in arcades in some form (the last time would have been in 1993 with a Williams Indiana Jones pinball game, thanks to Andre for the correction).
