Pac-Man returns to arcades with Pac-Man Battle Royale at Amusement Expo 2010

Ever since Namco first announced Pac-Man CE for Xbox Live Arcade, I thought that the game in particular would be a perfect fit in arcades, which I have mentioned before in posts and to people at shows. So this news that Namco will be showing off a new Pac-Man game at the upcoming Amusement Expo 2010 next month in Las Vegas has me quite excited. The faint screen shot of the game looks like Pac-Man C.E. but with a very notable difference – the game supports 4 players! I am all for more 4 players-on-one-cabinet games as we haven’t seen many of those in recent times (the new Gaia Attack 4 and Jigsaw World Arena as exceptions).

Keep in mind it’s only a sneak peek so they might not even have a full cabinet at the show but if you needed any reason to go to the Expo next month, here’s a good one! I certainly plan on being there, where I will capture any video that I can of this game in action.

UPDATE: As per the comments below, there should be 2 cabinets to play at Amusement Expo.

UPDATE #2: Click here for the first hands-on look at the game from Amusement Expo 2010!

Shaggy you are quick at putting this stuff up. I just saw the video on my youtube subscription feed a few minutes ago. I think a 4-player pac-man will be awesome.

Hehe, the moment I saw this I was all over it. 😉

I agree – having 4 players makes this very cool, I wonder what the cabinet will be like, stand-up or cocktail?

could this be one of the games making its debute in singapore?

        • Shaggy Says:

I don’t think so – as Sam says below there will be (maybe) 2 cabs at the Amusement Expo in Vegas but no indication of them going to that Singapore thing. If that was the case then the debut would be bumped up.

And not a gun, steering wheel or ax kick to be found, oh happy day!

There will be 2 cabinets (I believe) to play on.

Wow guys – this is ALL OVER the consumer game sites! (good work on being first)

Seems that this has sparked some interest. I love the way everyone is a sudden expert on he market… that would be the dead amusement market!

    • Shaggy Says:

Yeah, it’s just too bad most of them didn’t give us any credit for this. Oh well.

It certainly has got a lot of hits though, there is a lot of interest out there. We’ll have to see how the game does when released. Pac-Man still has a following so I bet it will be a hit.

      • It should be! This has got me massively excited, I loved Pac-Man C.E. and I’m eager to see how a new multiplayer game will work. I know I’ll be seeking this out as soon as it becomes available.

    Oh geez:

Looks like they just grabbed it from Joystiq or Kotaku (without giving them credit either)but what makes me laugh (and shake my head) is this line:

“No platforms or release date were announced, either.”

No release date no, but no platforms? I can understand that they don’t read AH here but how could they miss that this is an arcade title(and their ignorance is then passed onto the readers as you can see in the comments)? They obviously don’t even know what the Amusement Expo is. These “journalists” really irk me sometimes.

  7. editor Says:

Shaggy – its consumer game site/mag rules now that you do not mention any other site than your own, or an affiliate (or larger) site.

As the economic situation continues to impact magazine and news sites in the consumer game scene – publishers have made it clear that if their editorial team has to depend on others for their news they will be out! So they make a point of trying to avoid mentioning where they got their news from!

I am tempted each time that news is ‘borrowed’ from the Stinger or AH to send an email ONLY to the publisher – just to see how long they keep from mentioning us? Especially as we will be covering Amusement Expo in detail – and I am bored of my coveraging being hijacked.

what are the controls and gameplay gonna be like does anyone know or is it traditional gameplay with new elements not seen in pacman before?
