James Ko leaves Andamiro USA to form Pipeline Games, INC.

February 11, 2010

A few days ago I heard that in a surprise announcement, the CEO of Andamiro USA (makers of games like NX Absolute) was leaving the company to pursue a different opportunity. Today, he sent out a press release stating that he left Andamiro to form his own coin-op game company called Pipeline Games, INC. Not only does he already have some products lined-up to produce, he already has registered a booth at the Amusement Expo 2010 in Vegas next month. The website for Pipeline Games is very incomplete at the moment but it does list three products – Grip Strength, SlimStop and SlimStop DX. A quick search on a couple of search engines don’t reveal any relevant results for those games right now so whether his company will produce any video product is something we will have to wait for. Still, it’s always great to have another company join the coin-op ranks so good luck to Mr. Ko and his company in their efforts!

Another puzzle arcade title testing in Japan – Puzzle of Ocha

February 11, 2010

I’m not making it any secret that I am quite happy to see more puzzle games making their way to arcades again as I feel that they are a perfect fit for the environment provided by our facilities. They are easy to play, easy to understand and appeal to a wide-array of people in all age groups and both sexes. So that’s why I’m mentioning this location test for a new puzzle game that is testing for an undetermined amount of time in Japan called the Puzzle of Ocha. The game looks like a sort of Columns clone but it uses cute animals instead of gems. While it’s doesn’t look like a graphical powerhouse by any means, it’s always good to add another puzzle game to the list of releases.

Large new FEC complex in development in Homer Glen, IL

February 11, 2010

Via

If you live in or near Homer Glen, Illinois, then this should come as good news, a development group is currently in the third phase of planning a large family entertainment center to be opened in the city sometime in the near future. Currently labeled as Waterfall Place, the design will feature architectural inspiration taken from Prague, filling in 60,000 sq. ft. four-story building that will include ” boutiques, a nightclub, dining and office space on three above-ground levels and a gaming arcade in the basement.” The news article mentions several companies who are interested in helping fill the space up, including a “national gaming arcade company” but they do not mention which company that happens to be. Where Illinois happens to be the center of arcade game development these days, it could be anyone looking to either expand in the state (Sega and Namco has facilities there already) or start up a new place. Ground will break for the location possibly by this summer, I imagine we’ll find out more then.

The last Pac-Man cake you'd ever need

February 11, 2010

People making cakes about popular video game/arcade characters is becoming more of an art, as the boutique cake business creates fascinatingly detailed sculptures based upon different themes on a daily basis. Here is a Pac-Man cabinet cake – quite impressive. I had got a Pac-Man shaped cake for my last birthday but it wasn’t anything quite like this (not that I don’t appreciate the cake I got; it was delicious). You can find out more about the cake from it’s creators, Jet City Cakes.  To top this they should do an original Star Wars cockpit cabinet or a Sega R360, either of those would turn heads.

Fighter news: Tekken 6 gets a world championship; new Melty Blood Actress goes to Ringwide

February 11, 2010

Here are a couple of tidbits regarding some fighters out of Japan. First is Tekken 6, which is getting it’s own global championship. While the poster for it shows the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, the article at Game Watch talks about the arcade version of the game being used at the competition. Thanks to Fubarduck int he comments for clarifying: “The Tekken “Global Championship” tournament is being held on PS3/360, but the participants can get special items and costumes for their card for use on the arcade version. There were also be arcade cabinets with the game on free play at the event.” Registrations end on Feb. 21st and the event takes place on March 7th in Tokyo.More details here at Game Watch.

In other fighter news, the Japanese fighter series Melty Blood Actress is getting a new version which is to be seen at AOU2010 and one of the interesting things about this is it will use Sega’s Ringwide hardware, making this the secondthird game we know of to use that after Sega Racing Classic and Tetris Grandmaster 4. The title is called MELTY BLOOD Actress Again Current Code (always a fun name with these) and the page for the game shows that the game has an impressive roster of characters but not much else so far. The site also mentions something about NAOMI but I can’t translate it so I’m not sure if that means if there will be a NAOMI version as well or if they are just talking about the series moving from that hardware over to Sega’s newer Ringwide system. (thanks fubarduck) You can see the MBAACC website here.

UPDATE: Just to clarify again, they have not changed the name of Ringwide to “Naomi Ringwide” it’s still just Ringwide.

Silver Strike LIVE starts shipping next week

February 11, 2010

Incredible Technologies has announced that their latest game, Silver Strike LIVE begins shipping next Monday. If you missed out on the details regarding this new title, you can find out more by clicking here. For a quick recap, the new version of SS uses more online features and the game has a large number of customization options. IT says that they have already sold over 3000 updates of the title, which goes to show the strength that the series carries at locations which carry a Silver Strike already as numbers that high before the game is available is quite impressive for coin-op. I was able to play the game at IAAPA and it looked pretty slick although the online features weren’t available at the time.  For more details, check out the press release below.
