Video Review: Namco Classics Collection Vol. 2 UPDATED

September 3, 2008

Here’s another video review from a game at my arcade, sorry about the delay but I had misplaced my transfer cable but after finding it I’m ready to make videos again. Today we’re looking at Namco Classic Collection Vol. 2 which was released back in 1996. It includes three classic titles on it’s roster – Pac-Man, Dig Dug and Rally X. This game also includes upgraded versions of each game that stick to the same premise but adds new features to the game making them new. Pac-Man and Dig Dug are big names that everyone recognizes but RallyX might have gone under the radar for some people. RallyX has you racing on a scrolling playfield so you can go in any direction you wish, gathering flags to move onto the next level. At the same time several cars are trying to smash into you and you must avoid them by using things like a smoke screen to avoid them. I missed out on RallyX in the video because my battery died but if anyone wants to see more on the updated version of the game I’ll make a second part.

UPDATE: I recorded some footage of RallyX that was missed on the video above, here it is below

Stern press release on Batman

September 3, 2008

It’s no secret that batman: Dark Knight is an insanely popular and is currently the second highest grossing film of all time, right behind Titanic (which personally I never understood what all the fuss was about) and Stern Pinball is happy to have the only game out right now that has something to do with the new movie (since the video game has had some problems in getting made). They have issued a press release to remind everyone of how popular Batman is and to pick up their new pinball based on the new Batman.

I have had a chance to play this a couple of times and it is a cool game – the color scheme is great, I really like the crane toy but I haven’t seen the Joker toy in action enough to comment on it. In fact because my Indiana Jones pin has been so popular (even more popular than my Movie Stop redemption game) I have been thinking of getting Batman. My only real complaint about the game is the lack of audio or scenes from the new movie, which does have a few things but they are rather brief from what I have seen so far. They obviously have permission to use stuff from the movie but I don’t see why they can’t get more to make the experience feel more complete. The same problem exists with the Crystal Skull ramp on Indiana Jones – it’s pretty lackluster against what happens with the other movies. Game updates are still being released for Batman every week however and it seems to improve a little each time so it probably will just take a little more time to be complete.

Here the press release, after the jump or discuss on the Forum

Street Fighter IV Tournament

September 3, 2008

Capcom have announced the Street Fighter IV National Tournament. Qualifiers for the finals will be held across Japan from November 1st to December 7th. The venues for these are still to be announced, but we do know the finals will be held in Shinagawa on January 18th. Obviously it would be great to go there, but I’m sure there will be PLENTY of videos on YouTube for us to enjoy. Anyone want to take a guess and who the winners character will be?
