Guitar Freaks v5 & DrumMania v5 hit arcades in Japan
Good to see that Konami’s instrument games are still going strong. It’s just a shame we don’t get to see these games that much in the UK. I’d like to think I’d be half decent at them, seeings as I have been playing a lot of Rock Band the last few weeks with my buddies. For anyone that hasn’t played the game with friends, after a few bevvies, I can highly recommend it!
I’m hoping to get down to the Funland, Trocadero this weekend. So I will be keeping an eye out for any of the Konami instrument games and I’ll let you know how I get on. Obviously I will be checking out as many games as I can while I’m there too, so expect some sort of location review next week. Fingers crossed I can manage to get a few snaps and maybe a video of the place, without getting caught by the staff.

If Konami had any brains they’d move their Guitar Freaks series in the direction of Guitar Hero, with the whole ‘rock culture’ feel and wider screen. People would love to play GH in the arcade; Konami should capitalize on that.

there is a funny story about the ownership of the Konami Guitar game IP ownership which would make that move … difficult!

I wonder if the drum pads on these are quieter than Rock Band ones on my 360! Im definately gonna have to make a mod for them soon.

Paul I totally disagree. If anything Konami should avoid that since their target audience isn’t the west. GuitarFreaks unlike GuitarHero isnt about the “rock star dream” thing; people who play GF, DM or beatmania dont have that look-i’m-a-musician-on-stage attitude to playing rhythm games. It is a technical thing not a wannabe musician thing.
Konami should infact just get a few western song licenses if they want to attract western audiences and attention, and leave the wannabe rockstar thing to GuitarHero.
The theme of GF and DMV4 RockXRock to counter the GuitarHero was a bad enough move.
