Tatsunoko vs. Capcom – First screens

May 22, 2008

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

It’s official, folks – 2008 is the year of the fighting game. Not content with bringing back the Street Fighter series, Capcom has revived its popular line of crossover fighting games. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom pits the fighters from Capcom’s various games against characters from Tatsunoko Productions, a famous animation studio in Japan.  The game sports a light cel-shaded appearance, and features the tag team battles and outlandish super moves familiar to players of past outings such as X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom. Currently, four characters have been confirmed for the game: Ryu and Chun Li from the Capcom side, as well as Ken Washio from Gatchaman (aka Matt from Battle of the Planets) and Tetsuya Azuma from Shinzo Ningen Casshan.

The game looks promising from the initial screenshots, though it is mildly disappointing that Capcom has chosen 3D again, especially in light of the favourable reception to the high resolution 2D graphics of King of Fighters XII. One future problem that the game may face is a lack of enthusiasm in the international market due to the use of the Tatsunoko characters, which aren’t as widely recognised as the Marvel characters of previous games. Still, it’s a rather exciting development so be sure to check out the many lovely screenshots and crazy machine-translated Japanese over at Famitsu.

Sega's RaceTV gets a price drop

May 22, 2008

Some good news on the Sega front, especially for arcade operators – I was informed by my distributor today that Sega has decided to drop the price on RaceTV by $2000 to better position it in the marketplace. Where they had RaceTV for about $8200 before, it is now $6200 (prices might vary slightly from distributor to distributor). Now we have been saying for a while now that games need to be lower priced to drive them in the marketplace and now this will certainly help RaceTV in sales with operators that may have been considering one of the many other racers out there that were a little lower in price.

Let’s hope that this will sell better now and that Sega will do the same thing with their other games.
