March 20, 2008

If you’re in the market for arcade related shirts, it can be tough to find something that isn’t related to classic hits like Pac-Man or Space Invaders. So these T-shirts for men and women are great if you’d like to broadcast your passion for DDR (or in this case, DDE) with these Dance Dance Evolution shirts by TorsoPants. They come in a variety of styles, sizes and colors to cover everyone’s taste. Click on the thumbnails below for a look at some of the shirts.

This reminds me about a design I have for a Big Buck Hunter related T-Shirt, which I might be getting printed before too long.

HardCore Gamer Magazine w/ NASCAR Arcade review

March 20, 2008

hgm31.jpg

It’s been a while since I made any posts about HardCore Gamer Magazine as it’s been a while since they released an issue. They used to release magazines on a monthly basis but recently decided to switch to a quarterly release schedule, citing the influence of the internet and the waning interest in printed gaming media. I still am going to write arcade articles for them however – in this issue they printed a review of NASCAR Racing that I wrote – it’s been a few months since I wrote it and after re-reading it there are a few things I would change (such as re-using certain words less) but I still think that it’s a fun game that I’ve enjoyed every time I have played it.  I would have more reviews in the magazine but so far all I have got is one page per issue. The review is on the very last page of the issue and even has a reference to Arcade Heroes, in case anyone is interested. They offer the magazine as a free download via their website (it’s Volume 4 Issue 1). One reason I bring this up is to point out that not every printed game magazine out there ignores the arcade industry as though it doesn’t exist anymore.

Altar of the Unnamed Casting Call

March 20, 2008

Back in January we reported that a filmmaker was working on a movie about a teenager obsessed with playing video games and that they would be filming at the awesome Funspot  Family Entertainment Center in New Hampshire, USA.  Today on the KLOV Forums they posted a casting call for the movie called “The Altar of the Unnamed” looking for a number of extras to come and participate in the film from March 25th-29th at Funspot. In addition to regular players they also are looking for some children for a birthday party scene. They will be filming on the 3rd floor.

If you love games and want a chance to be in a film about arcades then this is one way to go. That and it’s at Funspot – I’d be happy to show up, if I lived anywhere close by. For the full request as was posted on the KLOV Forums, hit the post break .

Full Details on Taito's re-branding strategy

March 20, 2008

A week or two ago Stinger reported that Taito was launching a new re-branding effort for their company, which included issuing new uniforms for their arcades in Japan, a celebration of Space Invaders’ 30th anniversary along with two new SI games (neither of which will see an arcade release) and now they have a page up with full details on their plans, along with pictures. They are going all out on the SI celebration, which is a good opportunity to get your hands on some Space Invaders related merchandise in case you’d like some (pictured above).

Silver Strike Bowling 2009 release and some big prize giveaways.

March 20, 2008

ssbc2008-03sweepstakesseadoos.jpg

In a press release sent out today by Incredible Technologies, they have some big prizes that they have given away in conjunction with their SSB Sweepstakes that is always running along with SSB 2007. The grand prize winners for December and January received some fun they could run around in – one received a Harley-Davidson Soft Tail Motorcycle for the winner in Wisconsin and for another winner in Florida they received 2 brand new Sea Doo Jet Skis. From the press release:

In early January, the Port Richey, FL native and her husband Billy made the simple decision to purchase Silver Strike player cards. Having heard of the benefits of being cardholders – namely the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes – the two saw it as a great way to get the most out of their Silver Strike game play.

Well on January 25, Susan’s new card gave her the ultimate return on investment when it helped her become the January winner of two brand new Sea-Doo jet skis!

This is one reason I’d like to get connected with SSB in my own arcade – for players that get the cards from participating venues I think it gives some extra value for them as in addition to the big prizes, IT constantly gives away cash prizes. With the new SSB 2009, they will be giving away even more prizes. And speaking of that, the press release also reveals that Silver Strike Bowling 2009 will be released next month in April. I don’t doubt that it will be at ASI so we will see how players and operators react to the game next week.

March 20, 2008

Here’s another picture review of a small arcade in California thanks to our friend Dan on the KLOV Forums. This is of the Sunrise Fun Center in Sacramento, California, USA, a small amusement park that has mini-golf, go karts, boat bumper cars and of course, a small arcade. While they don’t have anything new about, they have a number of solid games that are fun to play. Hit the link below to jump to the review page.
