Sega not for sale

March 6, 2008

Recently there has been a lot of talk regarding mergers and buy-outs between big gamesegasonic.jpg publishers in the gaming industry, such as with Activision and Vivendi or EA trying to buy-out T2. As such people have brought up the notion of Sega being bought out due to some recent disappointing financial results but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, according to Sega Sammy’s US chief executive, Simon Jeffery. From a Reuters interview with Jeffery:

“That’s not an area we want to play in right now. We have no interest in being acquired, we are very happy with our position right now.”

“There is plenty of room for smaller companies to be successful and profitable in this business. You don’t have to be number one or number two. You can be number six very happily”

If a merger or buy-out were to occur, this would of course affect the US arcade division of the company. The only other arcade company that is owned by a major publisher for console/PC games is Taito, who are owned by Square.

An arcade by women for women

March 6, 2008

Perhaps if the translation of the page made more sense I could make a more complete commentary on this but in Japan there is an arcade that is “made by women, for women”. This might appear strange depending on your culture – I know that in the USwomenarc.jpg arcades do attract more men than women although they are fairly neutral. From what I could understand, the reason why the “F-CLUB” has been created is because in Japan places like pachinko parlors primarily attract males so this is to create an arcade parlor that women feel comfortable visiting. Between the feminine color scheme and with the majority of the staff being female, it should easily attract women to its site. The article doesn’t state anything about the games they have on hand (or if it does it didn’t translate well) but I assume that they selected games that women would find appealing.

According to poster PrOk on the KLOV Forums, Disney Quest is not closing! Its not becoming ESPN Zone either. We can all breathe a sigh of relief now as this is very good news! They have also fixed up the machines, and many have new monitors and most play like new. This is a must see if your heading to Disney and like arcades or video games, so enjoy the arcade!
