Alternate Flyer for Primeval Hunt

December 28, 2007

Sega Amusements Europe’s media page appears to have been updated a few weeks ago but I guess I didn’t pay attention to the addition of Primeval Hunt on the list. I checked the brochure there and it looks to be different from the flyer posted below. It shows a standard 29″ CRT cabinet and 62″ Super Deluxe DLP cabinet side by side (both of which feature better artwork than what is seen on what I assume is the American version in the flyers on the last post) and also goes about describing the game a little differently. Here is the European version of the flyer for those interested.

Sega's New Primeval Hunt, RaceTV and Virtua Fighter 5 Flyers

December 28, 2007

This is certainly new, I found a few flyers for Sega’s upcoming arcade titles including Primeval Hunt, RaceTV and the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 5 on a distributor website. In regards to Primeval Hunt, the flyer details some of the game features and gives us a nice look at the cabinet although what is pictured must be a prototype as the cabinets we’ve seen up to this point have been adorned with a bit more artwork. One of the features that makes this game unique for arcades is the use of a touch screen which will be used to allow players a free roaming ability – something you normal don’t get in light-gun games. I suppose they didn’t want to try out Wii-like light-gun controls in the arcade (as those can be hit or miss). We have reported about Primeval Hunt a few times in the past couple of months, thanks to a first look given to us by The Stinger Report. You can expect to see more of Primeval Hunt and RaceTV with our ATEI coverage coming later in January.

Konami's Jubeat cabinet

December 26, 2007

jucab.png

Some images of the cabinet for Konami’s new bemani title Jubeat are out and it shows that the game is quite unique – in fact it uses a cube display but it is unclear as to how that will interact with the player (or if they are going to be trying out a holographic type display which has been attempted with some success in the past). It might use a projected image onto the glass but either way the more I learn about Jubeat, the more intrigued I am. The image above was taken from the banner found on the official Konami Jubeat website. Also according to the leaflet that was passed out to locations testing the game, it will feature online play.

Pirate Revenge – another new title from IGS

December 26, 2007

Pirate Revenge is an arcade/redemption title by IGS (also known as American Alpha) that appears to be a new title from the aforementioned company although as to how new I am not 100% sure. The site says it’s been up since April, a picture of two cabinets is dated from May but I have seen no mention of this game on either the IGS or American Alpha website. It was however mentioned in a Stinger Report a short time ago but there was no further information on the game at the time.

There is a video of the game on the official website and it looks and feels a lot like an early 90’s arcade game that used 2D graphics while trying to get a 3D feel. It’s really hard to tell from the video how detailed the graphics but between that and some of the still found on the site it appears to mix 2D CG-rendered sprites and hand-drawn sprites which gives it a decidedly old school flavor to the game although that won’t bring mainstream players flocking to it by any means (I suppose that’s what the ticket dispensing option is for). There are a couple of different characters to choose and play and like all IGS games, they can be set to either arcade only or to dispense tickets. If this shows up on the American Alpha site then we can expect to see it overseas in an official fashion, otherwise you’ll have to import it. Personally I think the cabinet looks awesome and in fact I would go as far to say that it’s the coolest looking arcade cabinet I’ve seen come out this year – no where else will you get a pirate wheel for a controller that also includes built-in LEDS (until some shmuck thinks up such an attachment for the Wii since that seems to be getting all of the ridiculous different attachment designs these days).

Merry Christmas (again)

December 26, 2007

snowglobe-copy.jpg

I just wanted to hop on an wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. While the timestamp will say this was posted on Dec. 26th, in my timezone it’s still the 25th, so I’m on time. 😛

News is a little slow naturally this time of year but come January  we’ll have plenty of news to roll in. In the meantime, here is a link to a plethora of classic game videos hosted via Starcade.tv. These were all games that showed up on that TV show (if you are unfamiliar with it, it was a TV show where people competed on arcade titles – the website has a few episodes up and while there are a few cheesy things there every now and then, it’s pretty good overall).

Enjoy!
