The Greatest Arcade games of the 80's

June 8, 2007

C|Net has a great article up about the Greatest Arcade Games of the 80’s. They do mention a few games that were actually released in the late 70’s but whose popularity held up well throughout the 80’s. It’s a nice look back at the retro classics that helped shape the industry and I could only find one minor mistake where it says that Pole Position was one of the first racing games (Atari alone made quite a few racer’s in the 70’s including Space Race, Gran Track 10, Sprint, Lemans, F-1, Indy 800, Night Driver and Crash N’ Score, just to name a few.) but it’s nothing serious as Pole Position was certainly one of the most popular classic racing games created, if not the most popular. The article has plenty of pictures to look at and I especially enjoy the first one that shows some type of Atari 2600 tournament going on. Weren’t those the days?

Global VR shipments hit all time high in May

June 8, 2007

More good news from Global VR today – they are reporting that their shipments hit an allglobalvr_logo.jpg time high last month in part because of their international operations as well as good sales from new games such as Paradise Lost (which is good considering the game is selling for around $17,000). Seeing how they are beginning to lower their prices on games that is sure to spur more sales from arcades that might have been waiting for a used version of a game instead.

Raiden IV and Otomedius website updates

June 8, 2007

Arcade Renaissance has pointed out that the official websites for Raiden IV and Konami’s shmup Otomedius have been updated. Raiden IV’s website has a good amount ofraid4.jpg information now as opposed to what was there before but it’s a Japanese page so good luck with the internet translators. This game will probably get a lot more attention on the 360 then it will in the arcades if Raiden 3 is any example. The Otomedius website isn’t showing anything special so far(well unless you like anime babes), just a placeholder but there should be an update soon. Now all I want to know is if this will be coming to the States on an official level or not. I have my doubts that it will but you never know.
