Ghost Squad Evolution Released

April 19, 2007

You may recall Arcade Heroes ATEI 2007 coverage a couple of months ago where among the many games mentioned, a sequel to Ghost Squad was among the new games that Sega would be releasing this year. According to Sega’s Amusements USA page, that game is now available to operators for purchase.

Taking a quick look at vendor websites, it seems that it will be a while before the game makes it to an arcade near you. BHMVending has it in stock but others such as BMI Gaming, MountainCoin, AVE and others make no mention of the title. This is always a problem with arcade release dates – it has to first get to the distributors, then the operators have to pick it up so it takes longer to find a game you are looking forward to playing.

'Soylent Green' Computer Space game goes for big bucks on eBay

April 19, 2007

Here’s an interesting piece of arcade history that recently hit eBay: the Computer Space arcade game that was used in the 1973 Sci-Fi thriller Soylent Green. For those that are not aware of what Computer Space is, it was the first coin-op game ever made.

The auction garnered a bit of attention and the final bid ended up at a whopping $9,900 USD. How much would you pay for a piece of arcade history?

Tron and Prince of Persia Coming to XBLA

April 19, 2007

Two new entries appeared on the ESRB’s updated list today, which sound like additional Xbox Live Arcade titles. Prince of Persia has been rumored to come to the Xbox 360 sometime and somewhat confirming this rumor is a listing for Prince of Persia Classic with Ubisoft as the publisher. Probably more left wing is an entry for Discs of Tron, the second Tron arcade game released in 1983. In Discs of Tron you stand on a platform and throw discs at Sark to “derezz” him or push him off the platform. Since the game is pretty simple and the graphics are clearly dated, perhaps Disney Interactive is working on upgrading the arcade game sort of like how Konami added 3D graphics to Gyruss.

Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship

April 19, 2007

This news is tempting me in to actually buying Pac Man for XBLA. I own various other copies of it and I’d like to think of myself as a good player, so I might give it a shot. You know how it is with things like this though, you think your good at a game but there’s always someone who is naturally gifted and will literally decimate your score!

First announced at the Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft has just released the detailsof their first-ever Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. In short, beginning next Wednesday, April 25th, the Xbox Live Arcade Pac-Man leaderboards will be erased to provide a clean slate for the tournament. On that date, at 12:01am GMT gamers can visit www.xboxlivetournament.comto register and review rules before they start playing. The top nine players will be flown to New York City for the finals on June 5, with the winner being crowned the Xbox 360 Pac-ManWorld Champion by series creator, Toru Iwatani. (We suspect they’ve already got a crown pre-sized for Billy Mitchell.)”
