Gone Fishing From Tsunami

April 18, 2007

Here’s my first post and let me start by saying that I am quite excited to be a part of the best arcade related blog out there. I’m not just saying that either, since I found out about Arcade Heroes I have visited it everyday since many other gaming sites out there don’t seem to get it when it comes to arcades. Check out my profile for an idea of my history with arcades.

I’ll use this post to bring attention to a little know arcade game that may interest people that enjoy hitting flying fish with bats. Gone Fishing claims to be the number one restaurant and bar arcade game that places you in the paws of a polar bear catching fish by smacking them with a bat. You then see how far you can get the fish from your position.

While this seems reminiscent to flash based games like Bowman or Penguin Launcher, at least it offers a type of game that would certainly work well at the bar.It probably won’t find it’s way into many standalone arcades but if you ever are stopping by Chuck E. Cheese’s, check it out and let us know if it’s worth trying out.

Space Invaders

How about this for a gem.

An original (or so they say) Space Invaders cabinet. It’s not in the best of  condition, but is very cool none the less.

I’m sure that it would go nicely in any bachelor pad, all you need to do is get the screen for it (fingers crossed).

Donkey Kong

donkeykong.jpg

DonkeyKong is one of the most recognisiable characters in the acarde world. He first appeared in 1981, where he was responsible for kidnapping Mario’s (then known as Jumpman) girlfriend Pauline.

Donkey Kong took Pauline to the top of a series of ladders and girders that Mario had to ascend while avoiding barrels and fireballs.

Rumour has it that the game was meant to be called ‘Monkey Kong’ , but due to illegible hand writting the artwork was printed wrongly. Rather than replacing this, it was easier to change the title screen.

The idea was simple which is what made it so fun. I can remember playing it for hours and for the low price of 10p why not. That was of course until a bigger boy came along and booted me to get off, usually my brother.

Donkey Kong has made his way to Nintendo’s various home and handheld consoles, where he has received many much needed face lifts. But I still find myself playing the Nes Classic edition released for the GameBoy Advance when I get the time.

SNK ON Wii VC

April 18, 2007

wiislug.jpg

It has been announced that SNK will be bring a host of thier Neo Geo classics to the Wii’s Virtual Console, the information released follows;

Games will be priced “a little above” SNES titles (which are $8…so expect around $10)

They’re going to be releasing a couple of games a month over the next year. So, roughly, 24 games. Which leaves plenty of room for sequels/franchises.

Initial games won’t be Metal Slug or King of Fighters; they’re easily available now, they want to release some stuff that’s been a bit more elusive.

Other highlights include a desire to launch VC games simultaneously across all regions, and that we should start seeing the first Neo Geo games in mid-summer. Cant wait, some of my favourite games have been created by SNK.

Welcome To The Team

April 18, 2007

plus22.jpg

I’d like to take a moment to welcome two new members to the Arcade Heroes Team. So please give it up to ‘Shaggycade’, one of our regular tipsters on the forum as well as a writer for HardCore Gamer magazine. Our other new member is ‘doydoy’ the biggest Nintendo fanboy I know. I hope these additions to the team will bring in a broader range of opinion and information and will  help Arcade Heroes grow in to yournumber one source for all your arcade news and information.

Additionally I’ve added new links to the sidebar which includes a permanent link to the Arcade Heroes Forum, as well as links to email the team with any tips or questions.

Hope you keep on enjoying the blog and happy gaming!
