Would you wait 90 minutes in line to play SFIV? (AOU 2008)

February 16, 2008

sfivline.jpg

Just a friendly reminder from us and The Stinger Report that if scenes like the one above means that the arcade scene is totally dead (even in Japan – my guess is Namco probably should have waited to announce their arcade closures until after AOU was done and see how things were going to go) then we must have fallen into a different dimension where dead means “people will wait an hour and a half to play an arcade game”. Street Fighter IV isn’t the only popular game at the show however, several other games have proven popular including a few other fighters such as BlazBlue, Basara X and Fate: Unlimited Codes. I also have a video from AM NET that shows the latest version of Virtua Fighter 5, that we’ll call VF5R.

Weird Wednesday: English of the Dead & Pirates in Virtua Fighter 5

February 6, 2008

pirates.jpg

It’s been a funny old day today.

Found both of these of the gaming blog machine that is Kotaku. First up we have a new DS game from Sega. There was House of the Dead, then Typing of the Dead and now we having English of the Dead. That’s right, they are releasing an English training game were you slay Japanese speaking zombies with English. Sounds bloody ace if you ask me!

The second weird piece of news from today is the news that revision D of Virtua Fighter 5 will include CPU controlled pirate fighting in the Knockout Trial 2 game mode. I’m still undecided which of these is weirder, only in Japan. Actually they probably both will be!

Sega prepping for a huge presence at ATEI

January 3, 2008

sega-ufo-catcher.jpg

ATEI is fast approaching and with we’re beginning to see announcements of what to expect at the show. If Sega’s press release is any indication, this show is going to be huge and fortunately we’re going to have coverage straight from the show so stay tuned to the site around ATEI time.

In the press release Sega is estatic to announce that the final versions of UFO Catcher, Shoot This, Win This, RaceTV and Primeval Hunt, Mini Rider 2 and Sea Wolf will be at the show, along with previously released titles Ghost Squad Evo, Pin Air, Let Me Danceprimeval-hunt-deluxe.jpg and Outrun 2 Attraction. Primeval Hunt has also been confirmed for a general release in February 2008. For the full press release, hit the post break below for all the juicy details which also alludes to a “ground breaking revelation” coming from them sometime early this year (@ ATEI perhaps?) Sega's New Primeval Hunt, RaceTV and Virtua Fighter 5 Flyers

December 28, 2007

This is certainly new, I found a few flyers for Sega’s upcoming arcade titles including Primeval Hunt, RaceTV and the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 5 on a distributor website. In regards to Primeval Hunt, the flyer details some of the game features and gives us a nice look at the cabinet although what is pictured must be a prototype as the cabinets we’ve seen up to this point have been adorned with a bit more artwork. One of the features that makes this game unique for arcades is the use of a touch screen which will be used to allow players a free roaming ability – something you normal don’t get in light-gun games. I suppose they didn’t want to try out Wii-like light-gun controls in the arcade (as those can be hit or miss). We have reported about Primeval Hunt a few times in the past couple of months, thanks to a first look given to us by The Stinger Report. You can expect to see more of Primeval Hunt and RaceTV with our ATEI coverage coming later in January.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ver. D Details

November 22, 2007

[Via Arcade Renaissance]

Sega has unveiled some details on the latest version of the VF5 arcade that is going to be coming out to challenge Tekken 6 in arcades. If you were hoping for something quite different than previous versions you may be a little disappointed although it will be slightly different than what was released on the game consoles. Enhancements include some new costumes, items and two new game modes known as Knockdown Trial 2 (single player) and Open Battle mode (multiplayer tournament).

We will see how this turns out – VF5 is only coming to arcades outside Japan because of Tekken 6 otherwise it would have been a console only affair. So far Sega hasn’t been showing VF5 much at recent events with one source saying that they don’t expect it to sell that well. This is only one version of the game headed to arcades next year – Virtua Fighter 5 Evolution is also slated for sometime next year. Either way, 2008 is going to be the return of fighters to the arcade.

Here is a video on Youtube shoing off VF5 Ver. D. Enjoy!
