Terminator Salvation 32" cabinet

August 11, 2010

It’s been a few weeks since we first heard about the new Terminator Salvation arcade cabinet that has a smaller 32″ screen and mounted guns but except for a quick look on the AAMA Gala video, we didn’t have a really good look at the cabinet until today. Beston has issued a press release showing a 3D mock-up of the cabinet, which you can see above. It looks much like the Aliens Extermination Deluxe cabinet, which isn’t terribly surprising considering that Play Mechanix developed that game as well. The MSRP wasn’t mentioned but I imagine that it will be somewhere under $7000, with a price and a cabinet size that makes it fit well in smaller locations.

We also were sent pics of the 32″ H2Overdrive unit (which we saw at Amusement Expo) and a clean pic of Super Bikes 2

The Big Buck World Championships are now going through their qualifier phase as well, where players can compete on any online-enabled Big Buck Safari or Big Buck Hunter Pro machine. The grand prize you’ll be aiming for if you participate: $10,000. According to the BBS official website, here is what the top players of the regionals can expect:

It all starts with a revamped Online Qualifying Tournament that runs August 1st – 29th. The top 16 in each region will be invited to Chicago for our first-ever 2-day World Championship Weekend on October 1st and 2nd.

Raw Thrills' releases Terminator Salvation Super Deluxe

July 22, 2010

The other day I had mentioned in the Twitter feed that there was a new Terminator Salvation cabinet that was being made available for release, a 32″ cabinet with mounted guns. I had no idea that they had this in the works however, a Super Deluxe cabinet somewhat similar to the Big Buck Safari Super Deluxe machine but arguably far more impressive. What I was sent is a rendering but I imagine we’ll be seeing photos of the real thing very soon.

The MSRP on this is quite notable at $17,995.00 – considering that we have seen many games that are much smaller than this go for that same price, RT is certainly making smaller games at that price point look bad. This cabinet is available now and as to where you’ll likely find it, the local amusement park is probably a good place to start.

UPDATE: Found out that it has a 100″ projected screen. With a screen that size I almost wonder why they didn’t add two extra guns to the unit.

Midwest Gaming Classic coming next week, with more arcade goodness and Bill Paxton Pinball!

March 18, 2010

This is just a friendly reminder for many gamers out there that the Midwest Gaming Classic is upon us, with the show coming up on March 27th (a Saturday) and the 28th. As usual they will have a number of arcade games to play there (in addition to a large assortment of console gaming) and among the unique arcade-related games you’ll find is one of Ben Heck’s recent projects, Bill Paxton Pinball (which as far as I know, is not being picked up by Stern) which we discussed a little while ago.

Also it’s important to note that Eugene Jarvis (owner of Raw Thrills’ as as you know, maker of many great games from the 80’s up to today) will be speaking there and Play Mechanix, Raw Thrills’ and Stern Pinball are sponsors of the event so I imagine they willb e showing off some new product there as well.

You can get the full rundown on what to expect here, at the Midwest Gaming Classic website.

Big Buck Safari passes 5000 units sold

September 2, 2009

bbs1

I have mentioned before that we don’t often get sales numbers for arcade titles but Raw Thrills has had a few hits over the past year or so that they reveal such information on and this time we have word on Big Buck Safari. According to the press release they have now sold 5000 standard units and 500 deluxe units of the game to various locations. It still has a way to go before catching up with it’s sister game, Big Buck Hunter, which surpassed 10,000 units sold over it’s lifespan of three years.

It would be great to know what the sales numbers are for all of the coin-op games out there, I’m sure that would help any prospective developers know what they’ll be getting into with a particular type of game although that is probably one of the reasons why we don’t see this information made public too often. Keep in mind that while these numbers would look pretty small compared to console sales figures, for the current arcade industry any game passing 5000 units sold is pretty good.
