March 8, 2008

While many gamers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of SNK’s KOF XII, SNK is releasing another KOF game in a few weeks, the remake of KOF98, known as KOF98 Ultimate Match. An official site has been created for the game which includes a number of scree caps and a video of part of the new attract mode. While we haven’t heard about an official release of this game for markets outside Japan, Coinopexpress will be carrying the game after March 31st. Check out the site by hitting the link below.

King of Fighters XII English Trailer

February 27, 2008

It looks like KOF 12 was shown off at GDC and with it an English translation of the Japanese trailer (I couldn’t find any other differences). Video via youtube user ikarileo which is via GameVideos.com. Also an HD version of the trailer is available on Gametrailers.com which I would post but we can’t do embedded videos from that site for some reason.

Fighter poll results: King of Fighters XII or Street Fighter IV?

February 23, 2008

A few days ago I posted a poll via Survey Monkey asking a few questions about your thoughts on all of the new fighters coming out of Japan and I have to admit that I am a little bit surprised at the results so far. Unfortunately due to the way Survey Monkey works you can’t see the current results (if anyone knows of a better polling system that can be integrated into a WordPress blog LMK because apparently there aren’t any), so here they are as of the writing of this post. Keep in mind that the poll never closes so if there are any major changes then I’ll be happy to let everyone know the results in our forum. Overall, most of you are more excited for the new King of Fighters XII than any other fighter. Of course now the question is, will SNK be releasing it outside of Japan (in arcades) or will fans have to import it (or wait for a console version)?

King Of Fighter XII @ AOU 2008?

February 5, 2008

Yet another game that we can look forward to seeing more of at AOU 2008 (Hopefully). As if Street Fighter wasn’t enough! You won’t hear me complaining though. Fingers crossed.

[via Arcade Renaissance]

AM-nethas updated its game profile for King of Fighters XII to include a presence at the AOU 2008 show later in February. Based on the information provided, it appears that the game won’t be seen in a playable form, but rather in a video presentation similar to how it was previously shown off at AOU 2007. SNK Playmore already has a fairly strong 2008 line-up consisting of its return to a 3D Samurai Spirits, King of Fighters Maximum Impact Regulation A2, and King of Fighters ’98, so whether or not King of Fighters XII is being planned for a 2008 is questionable at this point. It seems that 2009 may be a bit more in check with the company’s plans for the arcade industry.

Hopefully at AOU 2008 we’ll get at least a better idea of what we can expect from King of Fighters XII. Though I would love to see some in game video, I’m thinking that more than likely its probably going to be a teaser of sorts (hopefully better than the logo teaser we’ve previously seen).

KOF 98 to return to arcades

November 29, 2007

kof98um.jpg

KOF 98 is the generally considered the best in the ‘King of Fighters’ series, defining what makes a 1-on-1 arcade fighter great. I happen to agree with the statements discussing how awesome KOF ’98 is, in fact I have the game sitting in my garage.

Fans of the game may be pleased to hear that SNK Playmore is planning ontaking the update that will be released on the PS2 called KOF ’98: Ultimate Match and will apply that to arcades as well, just in time for the games’ 10th anniversary. It is unknown what hardware it will run on and what, if any, enhancements it will offer over the PS2 version. The arcade version of the game is expected to see a release in the Spring of 2008.

KOFMIA update (videos, command list)

July 18, 2007

The KOFMIA official website has been updated in what I assume is one of the last major updates prior to the game’s official Japanese release. They have added a video of the opening sequence and of a jukebox feature which is from the PS2 version of the game. I’ll upload it anyways even though the arcade won’t see this feature.  The site also has been updated with a command list for every single character.

King of Fighters Videos Part 4

July 6, 2007

Or at least I think it’s part four, I am losing track of how many KOFMIA videos I have been posting lately. Fortunately SNK has been generous in putting videos out for our viewing pleasure. I am not sure why they delete the old videos so don’t worry if you have missed out on any as you can check our archives for those.

This week we have two videos as usual with battles occurring between Mizoguchi and Ryo and then Billy Ray and what looks to be Mizoguchi again(the name is too blurry to read) but this time without many clothes. I guess they decided to give a little something to the ladies after many of the characters shown in the videos have been scantily clad, big-breasted females.

Image of the new King Of Fighters MI Reg A cabinet

July 4, 2007

Thanks to our Kevin Williams, I treat you to an image of the new cabinet that will be used by the upcoming King of Fighters Maximum Impact Regulation A title. If I am not mistaken this is the same cabinet that Taito is using for another fighter called Battle Fantasia and we already know that BF is an HD title so the same may be true for KOFMIA although from the picture below you may notice that the game is presented in the standard 4:3 full screen ratio as opposed to 16:9 widescreen. The KOFMIA cab is on the bottom, the top cabs are Tekken 6 units which you may have seen already.

More King Of Fighters MIA videos

June 30, 2007

Two new videos are available through the official KOFMIA site this time showcasing a fight between Ninon and B. Jenet and between Mignon and a character whose name I can’t read as the video is compressed too much. I admit that I’m not up to speed on all of my King Of Fighters characters nor games (although I do own KOF ’98 which is an excellent game) but you’ll be able to see who it is for yourself.

One thing that these videos show is that KOFMIA seems to be taking a page from DOA as far as the ladies go. I’m not sure if that is common with the other 3D KOF games but it’s pretty obvious in these videos as they contain a little bit of ‘bouncing’ in them. I suppose it always had that with Mai though…
