SNK Neo Geo 20th anniversary T-shirt

February 16, 2010

If you’re familiar with Japanese video game merchandise, you might well have heard of the clothing company Mars16. They’ve been responsible for some very tasty Sega AGES 2500 tie-in stuff in the past, and lately they’ve started doing some SNK T-shirts too. While the previous two have focused on the company’s iconic fighting series Samurai Spirits and The King of Fighters, the third SNK-related design celebrates the 20th anniversary of the legendary Neo Geo MVS hardware. The front shows an MVS cabinet, while the back appears to list every game from the machine’s debut in 1990 to the final release, Samuarai Spirits Zero Special in 2004. As with much of Mars16’s work, this is lovely, stylish stuff. It’s also a pain to get hold of if you’re not in Japan, so you might want to collar a friend with a Japanese address and get them to take a delivery!

Pac-Man makes the obligatory energy drink appearance

January 17, 2009

pacdrink

Street Fighter got an energy drink recently so why not the other great arcade icon, Pac-Man? Well, I wouldn’t have cared had Pac-Man never been used in marketing energy drinks but since he has, here is the mention of it. It’s cherry-flavored only – which is too bad as they could do all of the edible items in Pac-Man and really go all the way. I’m sure that Pretzel or key flavor would do really well – at least they wouldn’t vary much from what energy drinks usually taste like. :P

Pacman Ghost Lamps

June 9, 2008

One day I’ll have the cash to get all of this arcade game merchandise and furniture that we’ve been seeing lately. That day isn’t today but if it was I would probably pick up one of these great Pacman Ghost lamps. They are only in the concept stage and are being created by a Brazilian artist by the name of Anderson Horta but when they are complete I’m sure that any Pac-Man fan would enjoy having these at home (in the game room of course).

Space Invaders lamps

June 6, 2008

Speaking of Space Invaders, here are some SI-inspired lamps that were sent into us by The Stinger Report. They remind me of the Asteroids lamps we brought up a little while ago but with these easily recognizable characters. They are done by Unisonideastudio, which is based in Chile but when you visit their page you get a flashy logo and an e-mail address to contact and nothing else so we don’t know how much they run for. At least they are stackable!

Reminder – Rochester Game Room Show this weekend

April 10, 2008

This is just a friendly reminder that the Rochester, NY Game Room Show will be happening this weekend. I have been busy getting ready for the show! I will be there and will have plenty of pictures and video to report back with after the show.

The show will feature a new fleamarket area, games available for purchase and for free play and everything you need for your home gameroom or arcade! 12$ admission at the door (its a cheap price for the amount of games they have to play!).

Visit http://www.rochestergameroomshow.com for more information.

“House Rules” carved in wood by Melissa Jones

House Rules...in wood!

A couple of weeks ago we had a post about the amazing wood work done by Melissa Jones where she was creating pieces of arcade character art in wood. Her latest project is taking the infamous “house rules” one may see at a typical arcade and carving that into wood. It still needs to be painted but you can otherwise see what it will entail. It will also be available as a resin cast so anyone who wants one can get their hands on it and they even offer custom paint jobs for it. It’s definently tempting to get one of these for my arcade, this would be much cooler than the standard flat sign.

This reminds me about a design I have for a Big Buck Hunter related T-Shirt, which I might be getting printed before too long.

Full Details on Taito’s re-branding strategy

March 20, 2008

A week or two ago Stinger reported that Taito was launching a new re-branding effort for their company, which included issuing new uniforms for their arcades in Japan, a celebration of Space Invaders’ 30th anniversary along with two new SI games (neither of which will see an arcade release) and now they have a page up with full details on their plans, along with pictures. They are going all out on the SI celebration, which is a good opportunity to get your hands on some Space Invaders related merchandise in case you’d like some (pictured above).
